sidewall pinhole repair?

-
Never attempt a s/w repair on a passenger tire.
The true cause of failure often requires the tire to be dismounted and inspected from the inside.
Not a defect for sure.
A damaged tire.A pin hole is much different than a broken cord.
A pin hole can be repaired with a special glue for the liner which is the actual air bladder/tube portion of the tire.
Made of impermeable rubber to hold air. the cord holds the load.
Broken s/w cord= junk tire.
Low profile( short sidewall) tires are very prone ot impact breaks. Just run over any thing like a pot hole, train tracks etc.. at too high of a speed or too low of an air pressure and the s/w will get pinched for a miilesecond between the rim and tire.
I removed the tire and I saw a witness mark on the inside, looked a little like a bubble in a casting? I'm not sure if a cord broke as the van just completed a 900 mile trip with no ride issues. These sidewalls are pretty flexible as its a 65 series tire. If the special glue can be used as a repair, is it feasible? The inside of the tire sidewall had intersecting lines in it from the mold process, do you suppose the cords line up with those raised lines? The inclusion was right between these lines. Very strange puncture, looks like it was a casting flaw if you could compare it to an aluminum casting. We already got 2 new tires for it, put the 2 best old ones on the back.

I worked in a tire and alignment shop for quite a few years. As far as I know a sidewall cannot be repaired. Only tread area punctures. Unless something has changed in tire repair technology, I'd say the tire is done. But you could put a tube in it...:)

I've patch-plugged a couple of sidewall puctures in a jam, key is to trim it so it is narrower between the bead & tread, but those were GOOD TIRES w/a small puncture.
i WOULD NOT F with that defective tire, it's an unexpected potential blowout waiting to happen.

I tubed it on a steel rim. Its a long haul spare now. Nothing like running a donut at 50mph for 80 miles on the 85mph I5 to a tire shop in the middle of Central California.

Kenda 16" tire on my minivan. Thing still has the nubs on the side and ~90% tread, probably less than 5000 miles on it but Im not the original purchaser, on vehicle when I bought it used. Its obviously a defect in the sidewall as there is no indication of any abrasion there or puncture. We pulled the tire off the rim and looked inside and there was a small inclusion inside where the pinhole is. There is a very slight ripple in the sidewall where this pinhole is (just barely feel it running hand over it) like maybe a cord broke? The spot is almost exactly centered between tread and bead. Wondering if I can patch it from the inside to use as a full size spare on a steel rim as the stock donut on this vehicle is a joke. When running the 60 psi donut on the rear at about 40 mph it feels like the SOB is flat or the rim is bent? I pulled it over to check of the lugs were tight! Neither is the case...do these temp spares ever get balanced? I know your not supposed to plug a sidewall as they flex but Ive heard folks running slime in a poked sidewall for years with no issues.

not safe junk it

that is some pinch impact damage
tire can only be safely repaired on the inside of the first tire grove then it loses one speed rating

Your tires are your biggest safety item on your car or truck. Not only do I buy good spares, I also but the correct tire and rim for my vehicles, that are on the vehicles now. When I buy new tires, I always save the best tire that I am replacing to be my next spare. Never not replace the spare. so not to be outdated.

Sidewall flexes too much for any but a full on professional repair, and even that is questionable.

I bought a matching wheel and tire off ebay for my '15 Renegade that didn't come with a spare.

It was $125 shipping included, or less than a new tire with mounting and balancing. Also came with the TPS sensor, which I ended up needing later.

Urethane Black Windshield Sealant

24 hour air dry cure time.
Spendy...

Don't get any on your hands, about impossible to get off.

After a small use like that, put baggie over end & screw full nozzle back on & rubber band around tube, or will go bad very soon. You still probably have to open with a drill bit to use next time.
And moisture is the catalyst to cure many Polyurethanes, so open & reseal tube when humidity is low, & A/C storage will help too, obviously.

Tube won't help. It's a belt/ply breaking & it Will fail, probably at hiway speeds. If you do run it more, put it Only on rear
In 84 ran over a brick in the road
My dad knew a recap guy did a section repair and a tube it always had a vib
I beat the crap out of this car
When I changed to tire the tube melted to the inside of the tire
No side wall repairs ...no tube in radial tires ...

When I worked at a dealer a guy came in from another state demonstrating brown colored tire plugs he pushed in after driving a pointed screw driver through the sidewall he had over 50 plugs in his left front tire and said he drives the thruway a lot of miles and and no problems

I'm 72 years old, and have been driving since 1969.
In my lifetime, I have had several rapid tire deflations, dare I say many? on either end; and for the life of me, I cannot figure out what the big deal is. NOTHING bad ever happened. Even my young wife, back in the early 80s, with almost no driving experience, has experienced them.
If you guys had seen some of the crap tires I have driven on, you'd likely crap yur pants.
I would totally patch that thing, and totally drive it, and wouldn't even care which corner I put it on.
But of course;
I would never recommend that anyone else should ever do that...... lol.

Was driving my 73 dart
Passed a truck blew out the right front tire
Instant lane change
Two seconds earlier I would wiped out the side of my car
Not a good thing
