Starting a BB Duster project

-
I sold the Duster to a guy in Albany, Oregon in the summer of 2021. It was a cool car with a ton of custom parts. I didn't have room for it anymore once the shop sold.

Here are some of the last pictures of the Duster before I sold it.

I put an ad on Craigslist and it sold the next day. It was a cool looking car but it wasn't a fully finished project. Still needed some debugging and some finish work. The body work was done but the paint was just epoxy primer so at some point it was going to need paint. The interior wasn't finished.
The guy I sold it to had an 11 second Mopar race car. Last time I talked to him he said he sold his race car since the Duster was faster and could be driven to the track. When I had it the Duster was a high 10 second car, not sure if he has sorted it out more or not. I didn't have it sorted out for drag racing. I never played with the shock settings or the Calvert adjustments or anything like that. It was just a foot brake car and the transmission wasn't built for drag racing. But it was fast and it hooked up hard.

Hey Andy, I just wanna say thanks a whole bunch for detailing that car here as well as the other places I have seen it pictured and talked about which I thought was way cool.

Showing the build here really was awesome.

A big huge THANKS! To you for all of that time and effort.

Rob

I could swear I haven't seen you post in awhile @AndyF.

Its good to see you back.

Whats the next/current build?
I'm currently helping my buddy build a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 fastback. It has a FE 427 in it that has been stroked to 482 inches. Dual EFI throttle bodies on a tunnel port intake. C6, Ford 9 inch, four wheel disc brakes, etc.

I still have my 1965 Coronet 500 but I'll probably sell it next. I'm winding down my personal stuff. The Coronet is a cool car. Factory 426 four speed car. The 426 has a 4.25 stroke in it now and the four speed was replaced with a Doug Nash 5 speed. The 8 3/4 was replaced with a Dana 60 and the drum brakes were replaced with disc brakes from a Porsche twin turbo.

Was your 65 a factory lightweight drag car? I ask , because I thought 66 was the first year for Joe public could buy a Hemi car?
My Coronet 500 came with a 426 Street Wedge. That was the top of the line engine option in 1965 for those cars.
The engine isn't too wild but if you look close the valve covers are made from billet. That is a clue. If you go look at the Duster engine pictures you'll see the same billet valve covers. I made a few sets of those covers and used them on some special projects.

straight cut or syncro'd?

I'd love to bend your ear about this sniper EFI when I get the car on the road.
Street box. I bought the Doug Nash almost 40 years ago. Still have the original receipt. It came with the Hemi input shaft. I wasn't able to install it for a number of years since it required a lot of fabrication. 40 years ago I didn't have the tools or the skills to handle that kind of fab work. I finally got it installed in the car about 30 years ago. There was a ton of fab work required to install that transmission. Back when I bought it nobody said anything about fab work! The magazine articles only talked about how easy it was to install in a Camaro. They left off the part about how it required extensive work to install in a Mopar!

Longtime tech bud of mine is a Chebby Boy, but He loves that body style, that & the 2nd Gen. A-'cuda notchbacks..

Had a question on this build so I'm posting a picture as an easy way to share the information.

Chevy-blackout engine bay?
The car was originally blue but had been painted black before I bought it. I had some body work done on the car when I first bought it and so it was delivered to me in a primer coat. The engine bay and front clip were painted a factory off white during the build. I left the exterior in primer. Here is a series of pictures showing it go from black street racer, to primer roller and then back to a street driver with a painted engine compartment.
