Timing chain cover and head bolt questions

Thanks for the last bit about the drip guide, no need for a slinger or bolt with a hole. I did notice the top left hole still has a passage way through to the inner block. That was the reason for curiosity.

I agree with @mopar65. The stacked plate B&M units are among the best. Use the biggest one that will fit.

The top one is the one with the ruined water pump threads. I was trying to knock out the seal from the dirty one, the same way I knocked out the cleaner (ruined) one. I knocked it out from behind and it came out no problem. It looks as though the other one is different (smaller). I cleaned it...

With an aftermarket case you don’t need a transmission shield or even a flexplate shield. You don’t modify cases like this.

    .150 clutch pack clearance

.048 is too tight, throw that wavy ring in the trash, they are the thing to use. Using an old steel is to do, it won't hurt anything.

Timing chain cover and head bolt questions

The longer headbolts are self evident if You look, but they go between the intake ports with the oil feed passages. The timing covers were changed on LA's so the seal could be popped out the front in later years, the older ones have to be pried out from the backside, this was discussed recently...

    .150 clutch pack clearance

I have .150 clearance on my high speed drum with the wavy snap ring in (.050). I have a 4 disc setup so going for .048 (.012 each disc). Even if I go with a .106 flat ring I’ll be at .094 clearance. How can I make this up now? I read I can use one of my old steels between the pressure plate...

True dat. I have been slowly increasing air pressure to get a little spin. I started at 14, Sunday I was at 18. The tire patch looks to be around 11 inches now. I spent some time on the phone today with Six Gun Scott. We talked about clutch combinations and other stuff to make it launch. He has...
