    Timing for recurved distributor?

Just installed the HEI conversion kit by Trailbeast in Aaron's Dart Sport we swapped a 360 into. Went ahead and got the recurved distributor with it. It fired right up with the new distributor set roughly like the original, although it was idling a little ragged. Tomorrow we are changing out...

Engine died while crossing RR tracks

Many of you may recall that my son Aaron and I have been rebuilding his 74 Dart Sport over the past three years after it was totalled his last year in college. We swapped in a 360 for the original slant six and kept all the old wiring harnesses. For the past couple of months, while doing all...

Most likely cause of fuel gauge being inaccurate?

Has the fuel gauge sending unit been replaced recently with an aftermarket one? Do a search here and you will find numerous discussions on that topic with opinions on good vs. bad ones, as well as interesting methods to calibrate one by adding in additional resistors. I'm equally interested...

    Is it probably the ECU?

    1. Off the shelf from parts store. Not sure of the brand. 2. Timing was several degrees out. Would barely start and ran like crap. Fellow with dyno was the one who realized just what you said... MSD was triggering on opposite edge of pickup. 3. Don't know how to flip polarity. Just...

    Is it probably the ECU?

Nope, nothing fancy. Everything is basically stock...wiring harness, grounds, distributor, coil, mech fuel pump. Only change was the ECU to get engine starting again. My question really boils down to whether or not differences in the ECUs would necessitate a change in ignition timing. I'll...

    Is it probably the ECU?

The Dart's 360 with Holley double pumper was broken in and tuned using an MSD box on the dyno. When the engine was installed in the car with a Mopar orange box, it took us a little while to realize we needed to reset the timing because of the difference in the boxes. Got the engine running...

    Tail Light Issues

I like simple fixes, too; however, electrical issues tend to be the most bothersome for me. Glad to help.

    Tail Light Issues

The first thing I would do is check all the ground wires. Clean all terminals of any oxidation. Push the ground plugs on-off-on-off a few times to ensure good connections. Check inside all of the bulb sockets to make sure the terminals are clean, too. Use the pink eraser end of a pencil and...

Recommendations for a car stereo set-up?

I am the "guy here" who offers aluminum brackets to swap a pair of 3.5" or 4" speakers in place of the single dash speaker. It mounts in the original location and would be a cinch to do while you have the A/C - heater box out of the way. Folks who have purchased my brackets reported back to me...

Brake lights stay on, off when pedal pushed.

Exactly... the switch is mounted on the pedal support, and by loosening the nut, you can slide it forwards and backwards, until the plunger is depressed when the pedal is relaxed, then tighten the nut. It works just like the plunger switch in the door. Door closed - plunger is depressed...

Brake lights stay on, off when pedal pushed.

A correction may be in order from me. I just took a look at my '74 wiring diagram and see that the stoplight switch, in fact, appears to have two wires - one pink and one white. Make sure your switch is adjusted so that it is fully depressed when the brake pedal is relaxed and in the up...

Brake lights stay on, off when pedal pushed.

I think it just has one wire and the switch housing grounds to the brake pedal support - very much like the dome light/buzzer switch in the doors (plunger style).

    Broken down college kid

67Dart273, Aaron will be home sometime this week with his Dart. Since I have the test equipment with me, we'll take all the readings you suggested and post the results. I'm very interested in determining if there are other underlying issues we need to address. Thanks very much for all your...

    Broken down college kid

As Aaron said earlier, thanks for attempting to help him. Looks like Dad (me) is going to be making a trip south tomorrow. Aaron is only an hour and a half from home, but when you are dealing with car trouble, it might as well be a day and a half. He's getting it towed back to his apartment...

Turn Signal Question, Please & Thanks

Check out all your grounding wires and connections. Pull them off and clean the contacts. Bad grounds can really create havoc in an electrical system.

    Turn Signal not Working

I helped my son Aaron (DartThis74) track down the problem, and as it turned out, it was a bad ground on the tail light housing. I push/pulled the ground clip on and off a few times on the grounding terminal on the housings and the turn signals started working. Check all your grounds. Jerry

Can any Dallas FABO members help a guy out??

As you know, for internal combustion engines to run, they need fuel, fire, and air. You have fire now. Have you checked your fuel system (good flow to the carb)? For air, check to see that the carb isn't being choked.

Can any Dallas FABO members help a guy out??

OK, folks, let's see what we can do to help him out. I'll start, but I think we could use a little more info... Was the car ever running before now, or is this a ground-up build? If it was previously running, what all was changed prior to its failure? If it's a new build, have you checked...

Absolutely, don't sell these guys (and gals) short here on FABO. Let's hear it, maybe someone has been through the same issue.

Who's using wire looms or separators

I would like to see what is being used to separate and route the spark plug wires on some of your small blocks. I need to get the maze of ignition wires under control on a 360. Sources and pricing would be appreciated, too. Jerry

    Reverse Lights Not Working

Randy, This is what it says in my Torqueflite A-727 (similar) Transmission Handbook: "To replace the switch, begin by placing a container under the transmission. Remove the switch; have an assistant move the gearshift lever to the "Park" and "Neutral" positions. Make sure that the arm on...

    Reverse Lights Not Working

I think what he means is that it doesn't matter which way you push the connector on, it is simply completing the circuit from one side to the other. The gear selector in "R" position closes the circuit in the neutral safety (reverse) switch. That's why someone earlier suggested that you can...

    Reverse Lights Not Working

Randy, still having problems, huh? Your '74 Dart's neutral safety switch has three "prongs". A prong is the short metal male terminal sticking out of the switch that makes contact with the female terminal on the end of a wire, completing the electrical circuit. What I call the "connector" is...
