    408 Build Thread

Same here with the threaded boss. Did you have to do any machine work or does an LA retrofit roller cam/ lifter nullify the need for block work?

    408 Build Thread

Did you buy the lifters and spider for a Magnum 360? I have a 1989 LA 360 (now 408 ) that I'd like to convert to roller in the future but do not have the hardware.

Roller LA Camshaft pars = Magnum parts

If starting with a bare roller camshaft 360 block, 1989 casting (4315830), can Magnum parts be used for the roller camshaft, including the cam itself? Spider, tappets, etc. Are they all Magnum interchangeable?

    Correct Oil Filter for SB

I didn't read all the posts but the oil pressure reminds me of when I was running an engine built by a machine shop whom had forgotten to install two vital, internal oil plugs... http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=21169...

    plug a hole - manifold

Tap it then install a bolt with loc-tite (spelling?) all over the threads. Because I'm a sick bastard: "Tap that thing and drill your sticky bolt all the way down" I've never thought of that but it makes sense, as long as you get a decent heli-coil. Good tip.

    new engine or stroker kit?

Agree, you're confusing simple minded joe's like me. but this post is simple: You don't need new rods. Stock rods are fine (and not Chinese). You'll need to clearance the block, you don't really 'need' anything else. You can rebuild your engine (after bore/hone optional sonic test)...

    Recommended engine book?

That's the same conclusion I came to. Good book but "How to rebuild your small block MoPar" by SA Design (copy/paste Rumble) is more thorough and overall better for a non-stroker application. Another recommendation: go to Barnes and Noble and check out these books if they have any of them. I...

    Recommended engine book?

I highly recommend the above book; it's what I used to help build my 408. Very thorough with useful tips, it does not discuss much (if any) about strokers. I have about 5 Mopar engine books and this is the only one that I would recommend. Also, I recommend a different source. Amazon.com is...

    360 stoker help

You can save cash by using your stock rods. Scat is a good name for cheap cranks, it's what I use along with Probe pistons to get the desired compression. I tend to see machine work to iron heads as a waste considering the cost and performance of aluminum heads out of the box. Considering...

    .60 over 318 stroker?

Are you asking if the additional stress of stroking a .060 over 318 would be too much? That's a good question, how much stress on the block is created when increasing the stroke?

    Fuel line?

No, stock 440's used 5/16 lines. But 3/8 can't hurt and would eventually be required if you modify the 440. For my 408 Duster, I used pre-bent line I found at a car show. I can't remember who the seller was but I am happy with it. So, pre-bent is definitely an option.

360 - to stroke or not to stroke; that's the ?

How much power do you want? If it is just a daily driver, then stroking is not nesc. The turbo will be more then enough and you'll get better mileage with less cubes. But like ''64 Cuda' said, the cost will be close if you are replacing the crank/rods. WARNING, there is a machine shop in...

    small block waterneck/thermostat housing question

I got one from Kregan (probably same supplier for NAPA/Carquest) after finding out that my original one was cracked. They are made in China and are iron (not alum). I used it for about a year and then found a old Canadian-made one at a car show for a buck and am using that now. 'Just a FYI...

    I might cry

Unless 340 pistons cost alot more than 360 pistons, 3k sounds reasonable for a rebuilt. Reuse the crank/rods and no port work. EDIT: I just looked up 340 rebuild 'kits' off summit. 3k seems even more reasonable. However that's for a factory spec rebuild.

    360 motor question

Actually 1974 but I agree with you, it all depends on who you are talking to whether or not a 19XX 360 is better than another. I had a 1977 360 .030 that ground an extra .010 into 4 cyclinders after only 200 miles. This was a strong block to hold up to that kind of pressure and heat while...
