2-Barrel to 4-Barrel Conversion

you can take a 318 throttle bracket
cut almost all the way through the fold on the carb side (hack saw)
bend it vertical and run a bead on the carb side
it'll be close enough

Couch cough ... Sarcasm ..... Cough cough

I got a few parts in from Mancini for the above swap. Here's the list.

HFAX42 68-70 return spring bracket
HF0060 Small block 4 barrel throttle cable bracket
HF407 340-6 coil mounting bracket
1843 Edelbrock throttle lever adapter
for you automatic transmission fans, here's a handy adapter to extend the kick down linkage as needed.
Edelbrock 8004. (Last photo)

The return spring bracket sets a bit crooked but will work fine with a little tweak.
The throttle cable bracket looks like it will work perfect.
The throttle lever adapter fit good and should work fine
The Coil mounting bracket will need some grinding to fit simply because the intake runners on the LD4B are wider than the factory 340-6 runners.. If you spread the ears out to fit over the runners the bolt holes won't line up.

Edelbrock 1843 Mopar throttle adapter fo most Edelbrock/Carter carbs. There are quite a few different ones. check to make sure there is one for your carb.

^ ^ ^ Looks like you're about ready for the 4v swap. The extra oooomph is nice & makes a huge difference :D

You might need a longer throttle cable too.....

Car was running great....What a noticeable difference going from a 2 to 4 barrel!! :D

Then a problem surfaced :banghead:

Amazing what a couple pieces of crud found wedged between the needle & seat will cause :)

How did you get a dime stuck in the needle and seat??? :banghead:

So, C - did I loose a page in this? What did you end up doing for the throttle cable bracket?
What color did the air cleaner end up?

Awww crap...You didn't lose a page & I guess it's time to fess up with a HUGE mistake I made, but never mentioned!

It ultimately did turn out for the better in the long run IMO. Stay tuned....:)

Soooo, after getting everything freshly painted, assembled, torqued, etc. I took it for a drive...WooHoo it ran great!! Such an improvement. I was stoked to say the least!

When I returned home & checked it over, the rear of the intake was puking oil...ugh :BangHead:

I used a copper type gasket sealer that you can see in Post #35 on the intake. It NEVER hardened...Damn what a stupid dumbass move...Did I mention STOOOPID ??

Ouch.... That would be frustrating to see after getting it all together and clean. So you fixed that and it's running well?

Thank you @krazykuda and @6pak2goDemon for starting this thread for all to use and enjoy
Thought this would be a good post to bring back for some of our newer members

Good to send this to the front of the line. It reminded me that I needed to edit my last post with part numbers below each photo for clarification.

Thanks for dredging this one up. Now collecting parts for the 2 to 4 conversion myself. Just slightly hesitant since the car runs SO good right now.

I'm with ya there. My ol' 2 barrel does a nice job. I have had a LD4B and a AVS2 for quite a few years. Haven't installed it yet.

Hey guys ..

As always, this site is a gold mine of information.

I had some flat stock kicking around so decided to build a bracket for the coil on my LD4B. I'm happy with the result.

340 brackets arrived from Mancini... getting them painted up right now.

Puzzling on the kickdown linkage if there's some insight. Using the stock plate and linkage but not sure on the connection onto the carb. (?)

This is a 1971 318 with LD4B and Holley 4160

Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.

Nope. Te large hole is a GM thing. THey used a bushing for their throttle rod. Your kickdown is all wrong. It should look something like this. I can't guarantee these photos are correct. The pivot in the back goes on the post on the throttle bracket. THat transfers the horizontal movement to vertical that goes down behind the cylinder head.
