awesome results and good info on the different combos and thanks for the header comparison cant wait to get mine on, look forward to that 600 hp build:D

thanks again for sharing the numbers and info; interesting to hear that the eddy carb did so well, i just suggested this one to a friend to use it on a 440.

Pretty interested in these cnc´d X-heads.....i like them.

A little of topic: it seems that these combos always like the open spacers. Brian, what do you think about these profiled spacer called super sucker? Did you check one of these on the dyno?

They "pull" on the carb more...meaning they will tend to richen the fuel curve. I didn't have time to try more things, and yes I would expect to pick up a little bit with the Indy single plane intake with a tapered spacer...no telling how much though...every combo is different.
They can be worth 12HP from what I've seen, or they can trade HP and TQ along the power curves from bottom to top. I recommend trying them at the track as the car will notice the acceleration difference more than the dyno will.

Brian- I'm looking at building a very similar combo. Spoke with Tom Molnar yesterday as well on the 4.125 crank & 6.123 rods. Looks like a custom piston has to be made? You mentioned a 6.20 rod & Diamond piston- can you confirm please? Also- assuming your (Ron's) 428 was a 340 base? Thanks!

We use a Diamond shelf piston and have them move the CD to accommodate the longer stroke/rod combo. Much less than a custom deal.
This was actually a 360 block we used for Ron.

Thanks, Brian, for the great work you did on this engine! It sounded fantastic on the dyno, and I'm anxious to get it in the car to try it out. I've been swamped with a couple other projects, so it probably won't get put in for another couple weeks.

To everyone who has made replies on this thread, thank you for all the positive replies. I asked Brian for a reliable, pump gas engine that would run in the 11's, without the re-encarnation of Ronnie Sox driving (it has an 833 4-speed trans). I think Brian nailed it.

Which 800 carb was used?
AFB or the AVS Thunder?
Being down 200 CFM vs the Holley, it did not do to bad.

It was the AVS 800...I agree and that carb had so much better idle quality and throttle response! Great for street driving...but the Holley will kick it's b-hole up and down the track....

Thank you Ron...so everyone know's Ron is the best customer ANYBODY could ever have...excellent person to talk with too. Hopefully we'll see you at SEMA Ron.

Just a brief follow up. The engine has great street manners, and runs like a bat out of hell when you get on it. It wants to run. THANKS, BRIAN!!!

Haven't had it to the strip yet. One of these Thursday nights, I'll drive it 25 miles up the freeway to Irwindale. Will probably try it with street tires the first time out (275R60x15 T/As), just to get a feel for it and sort out any problems, then put on slicks the next time out.

Hey PM me when you do go to Irwindale. I'd like to check it out. I'm in Downey.

I handed my 360 block over to Brian this past weekend. He's going to check it out and make sure it's a good rebuildable core, then I'm just gonna have to decide which way to from there. Mild 360 build, or 408 stroker.

I'll let you know when I go to Irwindale. I'd like to go March 8, but I'd have to ditch a class to go, so we'll see...

I second what Fred said about being happier with a stroker. The torque will come in at lower RPM, making it more fun to drive. Brian is very good at listening to what you want from the car, and then recommending a build.

Oops, I didn't see Steve's post (I was writing while he posted). Very true. Now is the time to do it, while the engine is apart anyway.

stroker, you won't regret it

I completely agree. I love the stroker I built for our Cuda. I love to drive my car any time the weather permits so I went real mild on the build and it still runs close to 12 flat (I think it'll dip into the 11's once I get traction ironed out) and the best part is it does it on 89 octane and when I don't get crazy with the go pedal it knocks down 14-15 mpg... the old 360 ran fair (13 flat) but rarely got over 11-12 mpg and required 93 octane
