To run 9.50’s@3300lbs at a track with a little elevation.......you’re going to need the motor coming off the dyno at about 775-800hp........ to have 725hp uncorrected as the car sits on the starting line.

I aint got a finger in this fire , and my 505 doesn't run as good as it should , but I have read , and been told that a well ported set of the indy heads will flow over 400 cfm , putting them up there with rat heads.
An ex aquiantence and my ex partner ran a duster that would run low 9`s w/ those heads easy, he had to back the carb down to about 9.60`s to keep from splitting the block.

It’s not really a mystery about what it takes to run a certain ET/Speed at a given weight.
Just use an on line calculator.
Plug in the weight, speed/ET, weather info, track elevation, etc...... it’ll spit out a number.
That number is the minimum that you need for uncorrected power as the car sits on the starting line.
I’m not saying by any means it’s the last word for what a set of Indy heads will flow, but the only Indy head I’ve tested that touched the 400cfm range was a set of their 572-13 cnc385’s with 2.350 intake valves.

If you want nice mopar heads that legitimately flow 400cfm plus, you need to be looking at B-1's, not Indy stuff, at least not anything less than 600's or Predator stuff. S/F....Ken M

You bolted on the bigger carburetor and it picked up .3. That tells me it needs more air flow.
Yes, Rusty the 470 picked up almost .3. I have been told numerous times to take the TM7 door stop off. It’s not the 70s anymore. My converter isn’t near enough stall either. I do now have the converter that was built for this 470. Stalled at 5000. I know those 2 changes will help. Also I’ve been told that my 470 will really like a dominator. Kim

Car weight and track elevation?
3300 with driver. 1500 ft above sea level.
I have a 1250 dominator carb and a Super Victor intake on the way. Should be here by friday. Now the decision is to put them on the 543 build. Mwp the SRs. Or pull the stage 6s off the 470 and mwp them. Kim
Would it be totally wrong to bolt the max ports on to std port heads. Thanks. Kim

sounds like the old BBC trick. put oval port intake on rect. port heads to gain a little torque or put rect port intake on oval port heads to pick up hp.

I have a pair of fully cnc`d procomp victor knock offs on my 505 , that I hand massaged the cnc marks almost out of , they flowed 354 @ .600 , but didnt go up much from there . I did have to open the intake entry a little to match things up with the victor intake that a friend and I flowed and cleaned up.
From what I gather , the max wedge ports dont do much better than that , but will gain some as rpm increases .------------???
That being said , my stuff dont run like I think it should , but has street gearing , so----------

Both stage 6’s and SR’s are pretty small heads to use on a 543...... and the 6’s are the smaller of the two.
Are the S-VI’s a bit small for a 440?

“Normal” vi’s(not Chapman’s)Done up nicely, they’re pretty good on a 440-470 combo.
The upper rpm starts to suffer from the small csa when the cubes start getting bigger than that.
Even the MW version is pretty small under the intake valve spring.
On a low deck build where you can use an RB manifold...... they can make decent power.
I feel like they were okay up to about 650hp.
If you wanted to make more...... there are just way better options.
Actually, if you take all the typical VI qc issues into account....... there’s almost always another head that can get the job done, with less headches...... especially nowadays.
Ootb flow for the original std raised port VI’s is pretty weak....... like 240.
The VI is the BB W5.

i prefer indy heads over b-1 heads any day,had to b-1 heads motors,and they ran like crap,indy heads are more user freindly
I have my 1250 dominator and Super Victor now. So looks like time to make a decision on what to do with the heads. Kim
