72 Dart Swinger 3.6L Pentastar +T5

good bite more work than a hemi swap with 727 thrown on . Just hemis are way to expensive still.

Yes but as my initial post stated, the 3.6 had what I wanted.

If it only had a less objectionable exhaust tone, it would be a home run

I really want to do this , been trying to stream line the kit needed. did you find the Hemi motor mounts worked for drop in mount. and curious on what auto trans you'd recommend now that you are all done.

imo "ticked off" = Cam and headers

A stock 72 340 was only 245hp net. The stock 3.6l has over 50hp more net hp.

So take a stock 72 340 + Cam and headers to add 50hp and you're at a bone stock 3.6L net Hp

My stock 3.6l Dart ran the 1/4 in ~14.3 @99mph(w/ a terrible 2.2 60ft)
A Good 1/2 second and 5mph faster then a brand new 100% stock 72 340 Duster ran back then(14.9 @94mph)
So again, add Cam and headers to the 340 and the 1/4 time/mph would be similar.
I want to starting buying all I need for this but still Bit unclear.

CMR, So this is very interesting to me. I have a 63 Dart wagon that I am thinking of doing a V6, I'd like an automatic. Does or is there a NAG trans for the 3.6? Forgive me for not digging through all the past emails.

Do you have a page with all of your pictures? Following you for sure.

Im changing parts to do road/auto cross.
Im intrigued about the difference in engine weight. Please post mods to your suspension.

My wife’s 13’ JGC has a 3.6 and NAG1 trans.

I used a 3.6 NAG1 bellhousing to mount my T5 manual.

3.6 came out around 2011-2012 & all used NAG1 before the 8HP 8speed came out around 2014-2015

3.6 Charger/Challenger 2011-2014
3.6 Jeep Wrangler through 2017
maybe a few years of Grand Cherokee 2011-?

It been a while since I posted an update.

  1. 4.56 gears suck and my 8-1/4 needs some TLC anyway. So I'm Trying to decide between building the 8-3/4 I have or swap to an 8.8
  2. Picked up another T5 since my 1st and 2nd gears need to be replaced anyway and the cost is about the same.
  3. I also picked up a GM T5 tail housing from a V6 which has a different tone wheel so maybe my Speedo/Cruise could work
  4. I'm thinking about adapting a clutch switch so that the PCM will pull timing between shifts.

Recently I've played around with some Edelbrock superchargers.

I test fitted a standard TVS1320 Wrangler unit just to make sure there weren't any interferences.

Only real complication is that the water nipples for the Water/Air Intercooler are too close to the firewall.

But the Edelbrock SC for the Pentastar is small in size compared to others, like Magnuson 1900cc
So i wanted to see what else might fit.

Only viable option from Edelbrock is a 1740cc used on the Colorado.

So I first did a little CAD practice to see where things may wind up. I modeled the 1740cc onto the Jeep's 1320cc lower.
Unfortunately, the adapter bracket Edelbrock kit uses, moves the Jeep alternator right in the way and would require a 1" spacer for the Throttle body to clear the belt.

I need an adapter plate anyway so not a huge deal IF it fits under the hood?!?!

So see what other pitfalls there may be to adapting the 1740cc, I used this 3D printed part.
This is the current JL Wrangler 3.6L 1320cc next to a 3D print of a 1740cc for the Colorado 3.6L.
Its larger than I thought.

How much room is there from the cooler nipples to the firewall?
I've used molded heater hoses before to make tight turns.

Its less than an 1" from the end of the nipples to the firewall.

But the nipples are close to 2" in length. So I'll just knock out the steel nipples and tap it or weld in a 12AN 90degree

The supercharger sounds like fun.

Is there enough meat to cut most of the straight nipple off and TIG/braze a tight 90 degree tube on them?
...edit...
Or the drill and tap will work too.

I finally found my putty so I checked the hood clearance to the 1740cc with a .77" spacer......Not good
A rib on the housing hits the hood.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if that rib just disappeared.....BUT it somewhat dashes my hopes of fitting a larger 2300 or 2650 blower without major surgery.....
such as this 2650 "Universal" i saw laying around. Oh well, the belt drive on this 2650 would be a huge pina to fit on a 3.6 anyway, so I suppose its for the best

I was just thinking about this build the other day and wondering when we were going to be seeing an update involving a supercharger. I look forward to seeing what you end up getting figured out.

I’m sure looks aren’t a deciding factor but I really like the looks of the 1740cc blower. Reninds me of the whipple blowers and those have always been my favorites as far as looks goes.

My vote would be an 8.8. They are plentiful and cheap at salvage yards and already come with disc brakes! You could probably buy 3 of them for the cost of A body 8-3/4 set up with a locker and discs!

While I'm usually not the biggest fan of a v6, this is totally unique and out of the box. It should be a peppy machine that gets fairly decent mpg which is needed this day in time.

I can't agree with the 1st post though. I haven't seen enough gen iii hemi swaps for them to be even remotely considered done to death. I will give that title to the LS which is done so often that there is nothing interesting about it. I've seen maybe 5 gen iii hemi swaps.

Anyways, kudos to ya. I've always wanted to 4.0 jeep swap something myself.

This x1000!

While any Mopar I do personally must be Chrysler powered, the 8.8 is the way to go.
An 8.75 rear for an A body is stupid expensive and you are stuck with small bolt pattern axles.

Pricing everything out, an 8.75 spec'd like I want it would be at least $1500. The 8.8 would set me back maybe $600. It is also crazy stout power wise. Gear sets are low cost as well.

At the end of the day, it's a rear end and all it has to do is work.

With 300hp and 4.56 gears, its pretty peppy alright..lol The supercharger and a more sane axle ratio should be a better combo overall.

Seems to me that if an A-body doesn't have a small block, it has a G3 Hemi. Seems more popular than a big block for sure.
