1973,340,727,elec.ign., My Dart Sport dies when she warms up. I put a new cap and rotor, fuel filter on and it still does it. Let the car cool down for 15 min. and she'll start up again. What gives? Thanks.

Make sure your gas line isn't too close to the exhaust and getting hot which causes it to vapor lock. Also might want to make sure the condensor isn't getting hot.

A friends dart was doing that years ago. Ended up being all kinds of crap in the tank would clog the pick up screen. After it Sat for a little bit the car would start and run fine for 15 minutes then shut off again. Let it sit and it started up again. Drove us nuts.

Sounds like a fuel feed problem. Check any neoprene hoses in the fuel line, sometimes when they get old they will collapse on themselves and starve for fuel. Also some tanks have a pick up screen in the tank that can come unattached and starve for fuel. When it happens try feeding the car directly from a gas can to try and isolate it to a fuel problem.

Had that happen with brand new hoses on my '74 Duster the first year I drove it. I'd be driving along and the car would suddenly cut out and wouldn't restart for at least 15 minutes to an hour.

No fuel at the carb or pump, I was pulling my hair out because it was a brand new fuel system from front to back on the car. Finally one day it left me sit, and my dad showed up, we worked on the car for over an hour and couldn't get fuel to the carb. He says "crawl under the back and check the hose coming off the sending unit."

I did and the hose felt like pudding, it was so soft that it would collapse when fuel was drawn through it. (but was less than a month old at the time)

I also had the same problem.I wound up ditching the clutch fan and rerouting my fuel line and put a 180 degree T stat in.Seems to have helped.

It's either crap in the tank plugging the pickup or a defunct tank vent that's not flowing enough air to equalize the pressure drop.

Blame it all on jokenol. Sounds like fuel to me too.

You know what now that you mention it,I usualy run high test and the other weak I didn't want to pay 4 bucks a gallon so I put 87 oct. in and drove around the corner for some soda at the local beer store and as soon as I hit the brakes she would stall.Thought it was a vac leak (power brakes) ran the tank empty and filled it up with the good stuff all is good.So you might be on to something.

same issue, my carb was flooding, stuck float , would start and run and as soon as the float bowl filled up it would die. tapped the float bowl with a hammer handle, then it would run , dirty carb. just a thought.

This is what happened to me. When the choke was set all was good, engine got warm and choke off it would die. After dirt was cleaned from carb, all was good.

I had this years ago with a 72 Charger. Would idle all day long, but drive it ten minutes and it would die. Chased my tail around like a dog for two weeks tryin to figure it out. Finally dropped the tank, and it was full of crap. Washed it out and reinstalled, put fresh gas in, and all was good.

OH YEAH! My son and I reviewed your replies and got ready to troubleshoot. When he started it up I heard a electrical pop. Went down a got some new plug wires, changed both fuel filters to/from pump. Voila! She runs like a champ. Thanks men. Question: The car had 8mm wires, we got 7mm, is that okay?

Do you have a see through fuel filter ? If its dieing because its clogging up at the tank you you would see the filter go dry. It could be an ignition part heating up. coil, dist pick up or ballast.

Oops, I see you solved it. Bad wire making the motor load up with fuel. I had the problem with my 440 Cuda. The 7MMs are better then a bad set of 8MM
