73 Duster Restoration

-
I spent all day buffing. I started with my old dewalt buffer and a yellow wool pad and some ardex Hard at it compound. Its a pretty aggressive cut and it brought the shine back pretty fast. Then I switch to my Rupes D/A buffer, a yellow foam pad and some Meguiars 205 compound to start removing the swirls. Next I;ll move to a white foam pad and some Meguiars 205 polish and finish with a black pad and the 205. Its gonna glow in the Dark.

I also couldnt resist polishing out the tail panel and hanging the decal and emblem.

Man, and here you were a few months ago ready to walk away.

Glad you stuck it out!

So next up is the front suspension. The bushings are falling part. so I will replace them and the ball joints and detail everything while the motor is out. I also bought new brake lines from inline tube.

From there I will tackel the motor and transmission. Nothing crazy. Im just going to regasket the 318, new cam and timing chain and detail it up. The transmission needs seals as well.

That paint looks deeeep! Nice. The white is the right color for stripes on green. I feel black is too dark and kind of hides where as white jumps right out at you. Looking great Adam.

Very nice..I wish I had pics of my 73' F-8 with White stripes I had in High school but since I dont I can always look at your.

Don't get into too big of a hurry on the stripes. Let it outgas a few weeks, even after you polish it. I made that mistake, once. IT looks great, by the way.

Adam,

What brand are the stripes and where did you get them from?

I got the stripes from Challenger Gary right here on the site. Ive done stripes with in a week from paint before with no issues.

All buffed, Stripes are on.

Thats the Way it should be...nice to see the progress and the stripes really set it off.

Benleys are nice and Ferraris are nice, but they're no A-Body. :D
A nice car is a nice car, but a unique one out shines them all. :glasses7:
And that's what you have.
Bright dark green with white stripes is uncommon on any car in a sea of red......
Awesome progress!

Thanks guys, Ordered a few detailing items, Mostly decals, Found an engine harness and had a Comp Cams HE268 donated for the 318.

I have most of the body assembled. Still need a few items.
I bent the passenger side upper windshield trim removing,
Need a set of drip rail moldings,
Missing the clip the holds one of the door locks in
Need a good set of bumpers or I need to send mine out for chrome.
