Got a 72 Dart Swinger 318/904.
Converting from column to floor shift.
Using an Aussie factory floorshifter and console but they are essentially the same as US stuff.
Done plenty with 727s recently but been a long time since I've worked with a 904.
In the pic below(from an Oz Valiant manual)it's part no.19A that I'm questioning.
That part will fit 727 but there's no casting on my 904 to bolt it to.
I'm assuming there is a bracket instead of 19A which bolts to the pan rail?
Can anyone show me what it looks like?
If 19A is the same for 727 and 904 then what odd tranny do I have in this dart?
Just so as not to confuse you good US people part no.19 in the drawing refers to the local BW35 trans.

Regards Ken

Got answers from an Aussie site.
19A appears to be the same part for 904 and 727.
Mine's a weird box.
Here's what it looks like.

Both nitemoves and I were at his place today trying to figure this out as well. He is converting from column shift to floor shift and the vertical rod (#17) in above pic, wont fit into 19A. The mount/support 19A is totally different, sorry to hijack this thread, but I thought it might help if we posted the same questions in the same thread. Ed/nitemoves has a 904 trans, and we are trying to convert to floor shift. Im thinking the rod that we have is from a 727?? Anyone got pics/dimensions of a 904 vertical rod and of the support 19A??

Thanks

Info I got says part 19A is the same for 904 and 727 in Australia.
Can't see the US being any different since most parts on Aussie cars are the same as US.Many of them ARE US parts.

Weird, "nitemoves" had 2 904's with 2 different style brackets/bushings! And my parts manual lists 3 different part #'s for the vertical rod...I dunno what is going on, but something just aint right, and the damned vertical rod wont go in the bracket.

Could be the vertical rod is different on the mid 60's shifters to the early 70's ones?
The consoles and appearance including the knob certainly changed.

There is no separate bracket that goes with 19A. The "proper" transmission you must have for that bracket has a cast mounting on the trans for 19A

The pivot rod essentially sits exactly vertical, so I would think you could fabricate something on the bottom to replace the 19A part

I didn't realize this but got lucky---when I converted from my 904 to 727 in my 67, the 77 trans I got out of a B200 van did have the correct mounting boss

Here's a poor photo of one, not mine---you can see the two bolt holes on the bottom for this bracket. My 67 shop manual diagram looks essentially the same as the one you posted

Thanks guys, gotta wait and see what "nite moves" wants to do....I can clearly see the 2 hole mount boss, we would also need the mount for it.

The mounting bracket for 19A is different for the 904 to 727. The bend on the end where the studs are is bent in the opposite dirrection. The only reason I could see why is because those tabs are lower on the 727 because of the tailshaft diameter . I have both if pictures are needed. and both trans missions out for pics. Let me know Steve

Any pics would help, "nite moves" has 3 904's and none of them have the 2hole boss and we are missing the mount that goes to the boss. Really got is scratchin our heads!! Oh if you have the vertical rod(#17) can you get dimensions?? Thanks a ton!!

Thanks for the pics, see the circled parts in my pics, the one pic is of the 2 brackets that Ed has...NFG, cuz the way they are shaped and mount, it puts the rod horizontal. The next pic has a rod with a spring on it, what is that for?? Ed measure the 2 holes center to center and post the dimensions. OMM are you able to measure the bolt spacing on the brackets??

Thanks

I have to say...none of those parts look to be the same on Oz shifters except for the 19A part.
All our Oz shifter parts are VERY similar to the slapstik in my 70 challenger.

......Edd u need the bracket omm has a shot of on the table................OK, the 3 pieces in the last pic.of urs Steve...left 2 right...........bottom rod 4 the 73 up kd linkage...not sure on which body though.....next=late B body bracket that bolts 2 the trans 2 support the cross shaft coming from the frame on a column shift car......last piece=used on all bodies and engine combinations, same purpose as #2, but differ slightly 4 all combos........none of these parts r 4 consol linkage........kim........

Thanks Kim.........I kind of figured that. The pic of the brackets is what i need........BUT what one? There close except the mount aspect. I need the one for a 904.

The stud spacing is the same on both. Center to center is 1 1/8. . I am pretty sure the longer one of the two is the 904 which would be the lower one.

The tail shaft housing is smaller on the 904 and those two tabs on the trans are higher and farther away . This puts them at a different location then the 727. I have several if you need one Just pay shipping.

That 73 sunroof Duster I just sold Is what really brought my attention to This. It came witha a 318 904 from the factory with a floor shift. They installed a 360 727and the shifting was screwed. I put it on the lift and replace this part and the rod going from the shift linkage to the trans and the trans lever. The lever was also wrong because the 727 came from who a knows what column shift car.I have a large collection of linkage gathered over the years . I went through the bins and just pulled what fit. It then workrd fine.

I am not sure on the correct lever and rod but with measurement am sure I could help.. I think I have a 68 barracuda floor sectoion here from a 904 car with the rod on. If not I can put my neighbors car on the lift when its free and match them up. He has a 904 floor shift 68 barracuda.

Like I said for just a couple of parts I will give them to you for just the shipping. I have more then I will ever use and allways bring more home. I would just be glad to help. Let me know what you want to do . I come and go from this computor all the time so I may not respond right away. Steve
