A lot of info in this thread. I just acquired one myself. How to identify a non lockup A999 transmission with pics!View attachment 1715479442 Bought transmission yesterday thought was a 904. Number on pan is PK4431427 9889. Was gonna use for my SB. What is this on transmission?
Does input shaft have a "reservoir tip" (non splined)? Thats a lock up input shaft. If you want to run the lock up as a slipper, just dont hook up the sensor, but I gotta ask why not: cruising and flip the switch..you get a 250 rpm reduction in engine speed with no other loss. In theory, the Idea is to route 12V to switch through a 45-55 psi hobbs switch from the governor pressure port, and then put a rocker switch in the cab. Pressure port will open under ~45 MPH and not allow 12V to get to electically operated OD fluid control solenoid so it will disengage when you slow down and cut back in at speed if you have the switch activated. Computer took coolant, speed, vacuum load, etc into consideration when stock. See if 12V applied to that switch makes any sound in the trans, maybe a little thunk or click? (maybe nothing if internal pressures are under a certain psi) All I see is 2 and 3 pin connectors.....Here is a single wire switch advertised
Chrysler A904 Lock up Solenoid with Single Wire A998 A999 TR-6 Torqueflite 6 A-904 A-998 1987-2003
That will be nice with the electric lock-up. The earlier lock-up a999 are hydraulic and were some what troublesome for Chrysler. Mine is in a 83 grand fury. Not sure what it is for sure but I"m hoping it does not have the lock up but it is unlikely it doesn't. Its a cop car so maybe. Fender tag says it has a a999. Wont know if it locks up till I pull the converter I guess. This is what the shaft with splines look like.View attachment 1715479616
It's a lockup. This is what the shaft with splines look like.View attachment 1715479616
I do have the converter. But I’m gonna get a 2200 26 spline stall. I didn’t know exactly what kind transmission I had until all the replies. Gonna use the electronic lock out. It's a lockup.
Do you have the converter?
Depending what your intentions are for it Turbo Action will make you a non lockup high stall converter that will fit that 26 spline lockup input shaft.
The guy I got it from said it came out of a 87 D150.only a 2200?
You have the lock-up feature available, maybe that oem TC is already a 2200, maybe a 2400. Unless it was in a Fifth Avenue, lol.
My brother and I just pulled one of these today. Numbers are PK4431427 9796 1489. We removed it from an 88 D150, rear wheel drive, with a throttle body injected 318.The guy I got it from said it came out of a 87 D150.
