Well, I would be working on it, except I am in Paris right now! However, Ross has already taken the fenders and hood with him, so they hopefully will be media blasted by the time I get back on the 23rd.:cheers:

there is a 40 Sedan Delivery here in Indy that was customized in the late 70's or early 80's by someone that did custom vans, I would like to put this on a modern frame and have my cummins powering it. What a great tow vehicle that would be. Just a dream now

Wildcat - where did you find the Plymouth Truck for pictures? I get into Indy every few months and would love to take a closer look at her!

Oh how I love rusted on carriage bolts. Most of them yielded to my cutoff wheel. The fenders and nose are now at the blaster and we will see just how bad they are in a few days.

I'm afraid it is all going away when the blaster takes her down to bare metal.

I picked up a 1992 Dodge Dakota 318 truck that was cherry until the grandson of the original owner smacked into a telephone pole. But that makes it perfect for me as now I don't feel bad about hacking up a perfectly good truck, and I got a killer deal for it.

Whats the plans with the dakota? you gonna swap the interior into the Plymouth?

The plan is to cut from the back floor to the upper firewall and graft that onto the cab of the Plymouth. I am going to graft the instrument panel into the Plymouth dash and reuse the steering etc. I am also going to try to reuse the seats, but I'm not sure I have enough width in the Plymouth cab yet - it's going to be close. I'm trying to leave the steering, brakes and engine harness all stock so I know it all works - no use re engineering it all. I'm pretty sure I have enough room under the hood for it all to fit. I am going to have a custom radiator built that is tall and narrow like the original Plymouth because the radiator support is pretty integral to the placement of the fenders, inner fenders and hood, and the nose is a lot narrower than the Dakota nose.

I guess I can call her PlyDak when I get done. At least it is not on a S-10 or Ranger chassis.

Wow, sometimes life really gets in the way of getting things done! However, I made some great progress today, and Ross told me the truck is the next project they will be working on in the shop. Now comes the hard part of trying to mate the 40 cab with the 94 firewall and floor. It's only metal!

Artie, what year Dakota did you use? When doing research for this project, it looked like the Dakota wheel base was longer than the Plymouth. I though the 46 Dodge was a remake of the early 40's truck, and the Plymouth was based on the Dodge chassis, so that might be a real time saver if the WB matches up.

I see in the photos that you had the Chilton's book nearby. I had that same Chilton's book when I had my '92 Dak and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a section in there that discussed cutting out the firewall and floor! :pirat:

Good luck with your Plymouth, I have a 1938 Plymouth pick-up that I've had on the road since 1999, and I LOVE it. Mine has a 360 magnum, 5- speed Dakota manual, and an 8.75 '69 b-body rear.
 
Ross and Brent had to cut the dash out as it was welded in when the cab was put together. They had it media blasted and DP primed, and now I am installing the new gauges. I went with a new style from Auto Meter as they look old school, but are back lit like modern gauges (instead of side lit like most after market stuff) and have a Speedo/Tach combo that fits in the original 5 inch speedo hole. Starting to come together!
