Anti seize on collector bolt threads?

I don't use anything on these bolts, but I don't take the car out in the rain either.
 
You have a bolt-on collector to your header tubes? Me too.
I use anti-sieze on the tubes, but not on the bolts securing the collector. I've never has problems with those bolts coming loose, OR siezing. Maybe cause I run a full exhaust system. Collector isn't going anywhere even if all those bolts fall out.
Means I don't have to run that absurd/expensive collector-retainer system either.

High quality (aircraft?) stainless? It's only 6 or 8 bolts

It’s the 6 collector to exhaust pipe bolts and nuts.
They creak and groan coming apart making me think they may try to gaul the threads.
I need to pull the system from the collectors back to fix a crack and replace the crappy flange gaskets with Remflex.
The header flanges to the heads already have Remflex gaskets, so I figured I would do the collectors as well while I have it apart.

I have used a dab on them before without any big issues.
I also use a lock washer to keep them tight.
The extra amount of thread after they are tightened up is a source of annoyance and extra muscle to remove them. Very annoying IMO.
 
why wouldn't you use it there?
Heat cycles distort the nut and bolt a little combined with rust getting into the small spots can be an annoyance if not slightly difficult to remove when the time comes. Regular nut and bolts should (IMO) get a dab. Not a lot is required as usual. Some guys slather it on.

i've never had any issues using it on collector bolts.
 
on stainless bolts, always use Anti seize they will gaul when you try to loosen them. only way to remove , is to use arc welder rod and blow them off. on all my exhaust systems, i use anti seize on all the bolts. also i use it on bolts going into water jackets. when i was a pipefitter, i learned about this. just food for thought

I use nickel on the hot stuff, copper on everything else, and the aluminum when I can't find where I put the copper. A brush cap jar will last most people a life time; longer if you can't keep up with it.

Okay, I obviously misunderstood. Yep, I'd use antiseize on the collector flange bolts. Along with lockwashers.
 

I used to think it was only for dis-similar metals……now i pretty much use that **** on everything. In big vibration areas I’ll use RTV. The premium situation is gonna be anti seize/flat washers/and nylocks….. actually maybe not for the collectors…. The lock washer setup probably better there.

I've had this Felpro A-S forever now. Just opening it seems to make a mess. Even using the cheap HF gloves somehow, I'll get some on me.

The question to ask, how often will you loosen the bolts to disconnect the exhaust? If you don't anti-seize, just break them off and replace with new hardware.
