Anybody got some wood, I need to build an Ark

Leadfoot is in good shape. It's raining pretty good here in Severance but it's just rain. The problem is in the base of the mountains. There's a dozen or more rivers and creeks running out of the mountains and all the rivers are fed by a basin that's specific to the river or creek. So each basin is like a big funnel. A 1000 square mile funnel feeding each river. So 1000 square miles getting six inches of rain is a recipe for disaster when all that water is running to a common point. So I'm far enough away where I'm fine.

hey man, glad your ok, i was worried about you, i just started a thread about the flooding, glad your on high ground up there, keep us posted.

Apparently Lyons has been and/or is being entirely evacuated. The infrastructure is such that they don't want anyone there at all. No water, sewer, electricity or gas. Hopefully Milehighdart will check in and let us know if he's OK.

On another note, one of my favorite motorcycle riding roads was washed out, I hope it's fixed by spring. This is maybe 30 minutes away from home.

Yep, Lyons is being totally evacuated, even if your house wasn't affected by the actual flood waters.
Wife and I have been camping out in our house for the last 3-4 days. No electric, no water, no gas, no sewer. toilets still flush with rain water in the tank, but the sewer is basically just dumping into the river at this point.
Sheriff announced at a town meeting yesterday, that Everyone needs to LEAVE !
Total evacuation. Most of our neighbors got out yesterday. We spent yesterday packing up everything we thought we might need for the next 3 to 4 weeks, spent one last night in our dark house, an loaded the vehicles this morning and left town.
We were told its a one way road going out, and we will not be allowed back into town till all services are restored. Seeing some reports that say it will be much longer than 3-4 weeks.
Pretty much the whole south side of lyons is severely damaged, houses gone, or flooded 5 ft deep for the last few days, I've seen overturned cars, that were in one location one day, and then Gone the next, washed away over night, same with bridges over the river, there one day, and completely gone the next day. I hear something like 119 houses are a total loss.
Wife and I are not even evacuated together, she went to a coworkers house in Boulder to be close to her work, and I took the two kittys and went to my brothers house in Littleton.
This is really going to suck, and for a long time !
On the bright side, we actually have a house to go back to, and a whole bunch of people don't.
I'll try to post some more pics and maybe videos tomorrow.
The last two days looked like a scene from MASH, helicopters passing over, and circling lyons. Some of these choppers were evacuating people from Estes Park. They got hit very hard too, and the only way out was by chopper. 34 to Loveland washed out, 7 down to allenspark - lyons, washed out. 36 between Lyons and Estes, washed out.
Holy Crap

Glad to hear you're OK MHD, this is much worse than I orginally thought, and I certainly didn't think this was going to be a walk in the park.

I do sincerely hope that you can get back home soon.

MileHighDart, glad to hear your home was not damaged but not so cool it looks like you won't get back to it for a while. All that water finally got down to the flatlands and my Sister that lives outside LaSalle got flooded out with 3 feet of water in her house.Even though I now live in Arizona,Colorado will always be Home to me and it's heartbreaking to see what is happening.Hang tuff.

Glad to hear your family is ok and that your house didn't get taken by the flood waters. keep us posted when you can. tmm

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Only been a couple days away from home and it sucks. Wife in one place and me in another.
Been in contact with our insurance company to see if we can claim "loss of use" or "additional living expenses" so that we could get some kind of housing in boulder so her and I and the pets could all be together, and be closer to her work.
But that failed, they called a little while ago and denied our claim because we don't have "flood" insurance.
I tried to argue with him that we were not making a claim for flood damage. We were making a claim because of the mandatory evacuation, the reason for the evacuation was because of no electric, water, sewer, or gas.
But they still insist that its all because of the flood. I'm like whatever dude, "thank you very little" I told him and hung up. You pay car insurance for 40 years, home owners insurance for 20, you'd think that would count for something.

Anyway, on another note, there are other avenues, like FEMA which you cant make a claim to until you've filed with your own insurance and been denied.

Also found out today that if I go to Lifebridge church in Longmont, which is where a lot of lyons evacuees are, there will be a policeman there tomorrow, handing out one time only vouchers that will allow us to go back into lyons to check on houses, or get more belongings. Its just a one time thing, and then wont be let in again till services are all back up.

Did you have to leave your Dart behind??

we had 2.1" on Monday and another .5" on Tuesday here in North Phx/New River. most roads were curb to curb water and traveling at a fast pace...

That is what the Gilbert Road area on the Superstition Freeway used to look like every now & then when I lived there....

Did you have to leave your Dart behind??

Yep !
Couldn't figure out how to drive 2 cars at once, and I figured it was a better choice to drive out in my pickup. We took a lot of our stuff with us just cause we didn't want to leave to many valuables in the house. Took the tv, stereo, computers, firearms, etc, and two cats and all their supplies.
Figured it would be a little tough getting all that in the dart. Plus then i'd be driving the dart everyday for the next several weeks.

I did do a couple of small things to the dart so it couldn't be started. Also bolted the garage door shut, and nailed the gate shut that blocks entry to my garage from the alley.
Not saying someone couldn't steal it, but these things might slow them down a little anyway.

A little good news today, I went to get the voucher for my one time visit back to Lyons.
They have split the town into sections, people from each area will go in on a different day.
Our day is Saturday.
Have to go in within a specific 2 hour time period, but can stay all day before we have to get back out.
Thinking of taking my brother up there with me so he can drive my truck back out and I can bring the Dart out.
My sis-in-law has made the very generous offer of giving up her side of the garage so I can park the Dart inside.
