I need to remove the windshield from this car…

IMG_5093.jpeg

The dash frame needs to be repainted so the glass is coming out. I want to reuse the windshield but getting it out is easier when the gasket is just cut away.
I don’t know if this windshield or gasket is original. I have parted out several cars over the years, many 74-76 Dusters and Dart Sports. I saved miscellaneous parts including windshield gaskets. The car is a 1972 model. It has a partial folding flap along the bottom and a removable lock strip that fills the rest of the groove along the sides and top. One used gasket I have here has a groove all the way around like the reproductions seem to have. This is different from the gasket that is in this car now. Here are some new ones I saw online:

If they all look the same when the trim is in place, I don’t care.
My question is….was there a change in these gaskets through the 1970-76 productions of these cars?

I can buy new if needed but it would be nice if I can use what I have.
Thank you.

What I was wondering was .....
Is it possible that one design was used in the early models, then somewhere along the line it was redesigned and the later design became the standard.
This has happened with parts before. The new design becomes what all replacement parts are patterned after. Maybe the revised design works in all models but is not factory correct for the early ones?
If that is how it is, that is fine. This car is not an OEM restoration anyway.

Crapped if I know. What's the point you're after with it? Steel Rubber has them all listed the same is all I can tell you.

I dug through the Mopar Parts Catalog for 67-69 for this info. You can do the same for your year. It takes time but you get a really good understanding for the parts and how to use the parts book.

I spent about an hour in the parts book looking for windshield trim clips for Duster/Demon. I could not find them.

@Kern Dog , when you get the gasket out, would you mind taking some pics of the clips? I believe the ones along the bottom are taller than the sides/top. This is what I'd like to confirm. On the hunt for some OE clips as the aftermarket ones fit like ish

I guess the short answer is, nobody here knows yet one assclown wants to be his usual self and make insults.
Why respond to a thread when you don't know anything?
Thank you, Dana67Dart for at least trying to help. One dickhead seems to think that using stuff that a man already has is somehow being cheap.

My info shows the molding clips to be 6002263 and the screws as 6002615.....but, the book has been wrong at times.....

I scrolled through the site and found that it would probably take a LONG time to go through it all. I'd be better off printing out something rather than try to scroll for it.

No, rear clips are 6002615, and the screws are 6002271. They also state that they are for the upper and side. No listing for anything on the bottom. The quantity says AR (As Required). It's interesting to note that they list 12 uppers and 8 lowers for the 4dr. Probably fairly close to what the fastbacks have, but, I would just count yours when ordering.

1970-1976 Duster windshield gasket all the same

I’m sure you meant well with this response but it isn’t totally clear.
The aftermarket may sell a gasket that technically fits all models but my question is Was the same design used and installed from the 1970 models to the last one built in 1976?
If you think that they did, you may be right. For now, it isn’t known but a part number search would sure help.
The car I am working on is a 1972 model. It has a built in folding flap/lock strip along the bottom ONLY.

The separate locking strip fills the groove on the top section of the gasket, the sides and a couple inches along the bottom, butting into the folding flap. Aftermarket gaskets seem to use the separate locking strip the whole way around the gasket.

Here is a 1976 Dart Lite:

It looks like the same design here.

If the aftermarket defaulted to the full separate locking strip, this would indicate that this gasket is an original. Next up, a 71 Duster I also have out back:

IMG_5662.jpeg

It looks like the others I have here.

What got me curious is that I have a gasket here that seems to have the same shape of a stock one but it has a groove for the lock strip all the way around. So far, I can’t find any numbers or marks on it. I’ve been guilty of dismantling cars thinking that I’ll remember the parts and their application but I’m having trouble with that.

I wasn't going to add anything productive and just suggest you consider painting the dash in place. I've done it a couple times with great success.

Then I saw this:

That dash does look pretty crusty!! I'd be cussing up a storm trying to prep and paint that one in place.

Good luck in your search for answers. Now you know better than to ask questions out of curiosity on this site.

I have painted a few dashboards with the windshield still in place too. This one is the worst that I have worked on. I bought this car in 2007 for my brother in law. He wanted to get into the classic car hobby. He lost interest a few years later so I bought him out. I’m trying to finish the car so I can sell it.

What the factory used and what is available is often not the same.

The Gasket in post 16 is correct. There rear doesnt get clips on the bottom and all the clips are the same. The aftermarket clips are really weak and the tab the holds the trim breaks off. Then you have to remove the windsheild to replace them . Been there , I will never us any aftermarket. I saved every clip over the years . Cleaned and painted them so I would have them for the future. Glad I did I have quite a few .

I’m getting a Lawyer/Politician vibe from you, man. I can’t get anything specific.
Clearly this question is outside the knowledge of the members here, myself included.
We all can respond with non committal words like should, maybe, sometimes and not always but that does not answer the question directly. Here is an example:

Most of us know that ALL B bodies came with the 4.5” wheel bolt circle. Do ALL A bodies have the same 4.5” hub?
Some, not ALL.
The answer to the A body query is non specific, like GDonovans words here.
I’m aware that reproduction parts often are different from OEM parts and while mentioning that fact was appreciated, it does not address the original question. I’m going to have to guess after seeing three somewhat original cars with identical gaskets that these were what was used at least from 71-76 since I have cars of those years here to inspect.
I’ll be buying a new gasket since I went ahead and cut the old one to get the glass out without breaking it.

Oh. Ok. I was just pokin the stick jokin with you, but as usual, your pansy *** can't take it. It's perfectly ok for you to clown around with all your stupid memes and smartass comments, but let someone do the same to you and suddenly you're the biggest Karen on the planet. I took you OFF ignore, because I thought we might try being friends again. So instantly I'm the assclown and dickhead for joking around. So back on ignore you go. Goodbye. I'll take everybody I have on there off before you ever come off again.

I can take jokes WHEN THEY ARE A BIT MORE OBVIOUS.
In fact, I like it when jokes and insults go back and forth. The problem is, SOME people don't know how to do it right.

My Mopar doesn't have 75 or 76 parts book

Once I knew the part was 23-66-235 it took less than a minute to find it in the next years parts book.

And typically the PDF page number will be within a few pages of the previous years parts book PDF page number.

If you haven't already you should download the parts books from 63-76 (that are available) now while they are still available on line. The same for the Dodge and Plymouth FSMs. Someday mymopar.com and other sites (hamtramic historical, Lincoln club etc) will be pulled from the internet due to death, failure to continue to pay fees associated with running a website etc.

And once the data is gone it because much more difficult to retrieve. There are internet archives but they may or may not capture the PDFs the pages link to.
