Bonneville Landspeed Racing - Let's Try a Thing.

like insurance, it's better to have them and not need them then to not have them and need them. Oops! that sounds like an insurance commercial.
But also, brakes, especially good ones, can cause big problems out there. Chassis inspector told me to remove them all together

I think I get it. in an emergency, the natural reaction would be to hit the brakes which then could cause a bigger emergency.
Parachute then or just ride/steer it out?

Pretty much. Use the parachute and the ample shutdown area. Panic and brakes will cause spins

Yay! Another piece

Not much has gotten done on the car. Storms came through on Sat. Tree took the power off the side of the house. Power service company had to an emergency call as live wires were in the yard. Then had to get an electrician neighbor to stop by and verify everything was good before they would power it back up. All done, just in time for another round. No damage the 2nd time though.

I did get the inside of the rear quarters painted. Paint has full cure time of 72hrs, so they will stay off the car until then. I do believe I will need to move the master cylinder pod over to the dash on the passenger's side to have the height and somewhere to mount it.

Heads should be flowed this week. I hope as this is my last full week at work. My last day is next Tuesday. Then a couple weeks vacation before surgery.

Agreed.

I wonder what kind of power I can make with a 14:1 470 with the 260/270 0.685" Cam, 440-1 heads, Indy intake with a 1050???

Andy F had a build of:

470 11.8:1 (IIRC)
264/268 .740"
TF 270 Heads
Wet Vac system
950 dominator
780hp
My 470 made 670tq- 685hp with tf240 heads and a 264-268 solid flat tappet .670ish lift,
12.8:1 compression. Gas ported rings & coated pistons
Super stock pan , wieand tunnel ram and 2 850s.
That was a basic nothing fancy at all build, besides the piston rings.
It's in the process of being redone with maybe another 50-75 hp from the latest work.

You shouldn't have an issue making exactly 700 HP, although for what you're doing id probably want a tad more lift and duration.

Work has been very busy, so the heads haven't been flowed yet. I will wait to see what the flow numbers are, where they are, etc. then decide if it needs more cam.

Idiots. We already have 360 degree cams. That would be a 720 degree cam
So.....if full duration, is that a full race cam vs a 1/4 race or 1/2 race cam from the old days?

So, what if...

You decided to go to Bonneville (Speed Week this week has me thinking). You guess you need 700-800hp to get your 68-70 B Body close to 200mph. You need to run WOT for about 5 miles a several times for licensing. What would you build for a motor? The cars are heavy typically by design for stability. It would seem less grueling than the Silver State Classic Challenge being this race is 93 miles of near WOT.

I saw a video where Pete Turk sprayed nitrous for a full 70 seconds!! I assume a very good rotating assembly, what would you use? Max wedge sized head ports?

Big Block N/A?
Big Block with boost?
Small Block for lots of RPM?
Cross bolted mains style block?
E85? Methanol?

Edit: Keeping a reasonable budget for an average poor guy.
Call Tim at Hanford auto supply Ca.. He runs 196-8 mph in a carbureted Y-Block roadster every year. Very simple build and he doesn't seem to go through engines.

Obviously, its not a Mopar, but he knows everyone and is always willing to share information.

So, I worked on the car a bit. Gusseted the receiver hitch and made patch panels for the A and C pillar rust holes on the drivers side. Ran out of 0.025 wire, so I stopped. Also ran the demon up to a doctor's appointment. My uncle saw me in traffic but didn't know it was me.
