Looking to change my 65 Dart to an electronic distributor. But I want it to look vintage 60's, so the Mopar kit is out. Do not want boxes and control modules under the hood. Just wondering if any one can suggest a brand and model of distributor that will just hook up in place of the points unit. Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

Yea I was thinking about that. I am just a little leery of them. I worked on a 69 stingray with a 427 that had that setup and it just would not ever run right. Finlay talked him into putting an HEI in it, and WOW it ran 110% better. Could have been problems with the advance and not the conversion, but not sure.

interesting.. maybe he had it set up wrong or other bad parts.. it is a GM product ya know..lol... have one in jamies dart and its been flawless ( since 03 or 04). i also put one in a friends car and thats been flawless.. never really heard anything bad about it...

Good to know!
So what all do you have to change with it. I assume a deferent coil?

don't remember changing the coil but we may have.. its been a while.. you pull the points out and basically drop the new stuff in set the air gap and hook the wires up... it has one power and one ground. it was really easy to install i know that. like i said it keeps it stock looking if thats what you are after..

If you want to stay ECU free and stock looking go with the original Pertronix.
The only difference is that there is 2 wires coming out of the dist cap instead of 1.

Hook the Red wire to the + side of the coil and the Black wire to the - side of the coil and your done.

Everything else stays stock.

You are also going to want to change your voltage regulator to an electronic unit. They have a stock looking unit available that bolts right in.

Are you working on a 6cyl or 8cyl ?

I believe it is. Because than they came out with the 2 & 3 etc.......
Somewhere they dropped the ballast resistor ect.

Personally I would put a real ignition in. I just built a ignition system with the help of Don at FBO, for my slant car, that will rev to 8000 (If it could) without a hickup.....I used a 73 elec dist, Dons ecu/ ballast res, and coil.

yea its easy to put a stock style in.. also should be easy to get parts for it if you ever need them..

All stock replacement parts will work.

Pertronix are ok, however I have seen them flutter or fall off in the upper RPM's.

It is a 273 car, but it has been replaced by a 318

Has any one ever used the Jegs or Summit brand conversion kits? Quite a bit cheeper than the Mopar one. Jegs has it right now for only $160
