Is it just me? Or does anyone else have a problem with marketing and selling a funeral service. I'm talking about the Whitney Houston funeral DVD. Have we as a society sunk that low in an attempt to make a fast buck.

I agree with you! Wherever there is a buck to be made, people will stoop pretty low. BUT...in all fairness, the biggest ripoff artists are the funeral homes themselves. I compare them to some of the con artist car salesmen I've known over the years. When you're at the worst time in your life with grieving over a lost loved one and not thinking to clearly, they will try to steer you towards their "Cadillac Coffin" before they show you the cheaper model. Then they will try to sell you on a bunch of nonsense items that really don't mean anything to you or your family, but they make tons of profit on these little extras and before you know it, you're looking at a huge funeral bill! And they do it all with a big smile and a show of genuine concern!

I personally know the biggest funeral director in my town. He and the wife are constantly traveling all over the world every summer and they have a couple of really nice homes, not to mention, the nice set of cars in their 5 car garage! As you can tell, I've been through this to many times and I cut right through their BS right from the start and tell them this is what it's going to be. They don't like it, and once they know that I'm not falling for the sales pitch, their whole attitude changes.

Priced a funeral lately???

One of the reasons I became a whole body donor. That and I finally get to go to med school even if it is only as a cadaver.

I understand what you're saying, but this is not a business playing off your misery.

Nothing like another round of science class "late in life". I'm sure you'll pass:) They may not be playing on my misery, but they are playing on Whitneys fan base, which is grieving as if they lost someone close to their hearts, so to me, it's kinda the same thing a little bit. Maybe not as intense or personal, but still along the same lines. They been doing it with Elvis memorabilia for 35 years to his diehard fans.

Yes they have. I was at Graceland once about twenty years ago. Not impressed. I just think marketing a funeral service is over the line.

"Nudity?" I don't normally laugh out loud at too many things, but that there was real funny.

"Too soon?" I am still chuckling.

Aw man, that might be my favorite post of all time (well ones without pictures anyway).

yes

I don't care what they do. The family already cheapened what should be a sacred event by allowing TV cameras inside.

It's all the Houston family vultures trying to rack up on every last cent they can. It's all about the $$$$$$$$.
