I have been a long time lurker as I sold my 1973 duster about six years ago due to not having a place to work on it or no time to work on it.Well a couple of months ago I started to search for a project car to start working on with my two boys and it just so happened that i found another Duster, this one being a 1970.Heres a picture of us bringing it home, as you can see it’s pretty much a rolling shell.

Tyler, your boys will remember this restoration for the rest of their lives. Have loads of fun with them as you go down this journey.

Some more photos, car is pretty solid, seems like the worst dent is in the tail panel and the hood is pretty rough

The rear quarters must’ve been replaced once before as the car is mini-tubbed and whoever did it decided to fill the roof/quarter seam with a bunch of body filler and it was starting to crack. I guess down to bare metal might be in this cars future.

Lead the joint, they should never use filler.

Well not much of an update, slowly been working on patching the floor and going to start tackling the body work.
Did however manage to find a 340 with x heads that I have started to tear down, doesn’t look like it was ran much but unfortunately some water got in cylinder 8 while it was stored so the heads and block are going to need a trip to the machine shop.

I assume you know that those rocker arms are off of a 273. Somebody been hotrodding that 340.

Yep kind of knew that buying the motor but when you live in rural Montana 340’s are hard to come by.
Here’s some more pictures appears to have domed pistons and a pretty stout solid cam, looks like a comp grind 282s-10, might need to downgrade the cam a bit.

Since I’m getting ready to start stripping the car, decided to try out the harbor freight sct.

Stay on the body till it's done I was lucky not as rough as you but I did buy a Rochester NY tagged car sold there When I found it was 45 miles from Canada sitting in a garage still rusted at 47000 miles. I would say slow and steady but I was at it everyday for a while hour or two here and there or more. I had a Duster as a kid glad you got it back. I will enjoy your build and progress subscribed.

please let us know how that harbor freight stripping tool works out for you, i was thinking about getting one to strip my Duster...Rich

With your car already stripped out you may consider renting a soda blaster or check out harbor I think they have a cheap alternative for hobby. Epoxy 2k stop the cancer and repair her. Great project

Unfortunately I don’t have an air compressor yet, that’s the next big purchase I’m saving for but I agree sand blasting or soda blasting would be a lot easier route to go.

Well, so far so good, used it for about 30 minutes and got the trunk lid stripped, I definitely liked using it better then a grinder with a flap wheel or sanding disc attachment.

Well not much of an update, had our third child about a month ago, so progress has slowed down. Still working on stripping the car, good news so far is there’s no hidden rust yet and no hidden damage yet.

Tyler, be sure and lead the joint where the sail panel meets the roof. You won't regret it down the road.

Yep planning on to lead the joint, but also I am doing some research into the all metal filler.

All metal fillers can't do the job that lead can do. The lead will bond to the metal without having to do heavy grinding for adhesion you just need a clean surface. Workable to provide a smooth surface utilizing paddles. All metal will require special surface prep to make adhesion and sanding. It's your call Tyler.

Just got these back from Mopar Leo and they look great. Waiting for a new stripping drum to arrive and then will probably be able to get the rest of the car stripped, plan is to hit it hard this winter and have it ready for painting by spring.
