factory 340 forged crank

I have a question on a factory 340 forged crack.
Here is a picture of the differences. Why is one drilled through the #1 journal and the other is not. Is one better than the other? any help

The cranks without a hole are from 318-III truck engines. As far as appearance, look closely at the sides of the front and rear counterweights, they're slightly smaller.

Heres pics of crank in my 70 318. 1&2 throw is drilled. You can also see machine marks by the rod bolts?? Only on 1st throw.
Then groove in the last 2 throws. Also hole drilled in last throw.

The big holes in the counterweights are what to expect with a 340 crank and the light rods and pistons. This 318 crank has really been worked over! Looks like it is a forged one and may have been for the later 318 heavier rods (same as the 360 rods).....hard for me to say.
The notches by the inner journals/throws seem to be pretty common; don't know what they are for....
