Congratulations, your hard work and determination made it happen.
Well I am finally so happy to say that I have a job. :cheers:
OMG! YES! Excellent, CONGRADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :blob:
I got hired by the LIRR @ 22. Similar kind of deal. State backed job.
Best advice I can give for this type of deal is;
Just simply show up on time, do your stuff and lay low, go home and stay outta the B.S. petty bickering. Watch, learn, understand how the system works and do not buck the system. It is the way it is for a reason, though it seems totally backwards.
Never take sick unless you NEED to take sick. Have full documents at the ready and saved for any issue that crops up. This not only includes being sick with saved doctor reports, but also a list of the meds they put you on and for how long. If there meds that prohibit operation of driving, operating heavy machinery, drowseyness, this is your ticket to be off. It's a safe than sorry move.
Save for your retirement NOW!!!!!!!!
Invest as much as you can NOW!!!!!!!
Do not delay this even though it is 30 + years away, do it now!!!!!!!!!!
The money folding over becomes huge. So more the merry NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
And then, if and when possible, learn everything you can on there dime. If they offer a class on something... take it!!!!!!!!
Knowledge is power and a ticket upwards. Do not delay. It's better to move up early rather than later. It'll be easier on your back, work schedule, future family life and your own life in terms of physical work load down in the trenchs vs. a better easier job knowing your stuff up top.
Now with full bennifits, use them! And when the future comes with kids, your gonna flip out at the bill the send ya, but, laff for miles on the way home since it was only the price of a co-pay.
Again, Congrads!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on your new job.
After working for a month on Long Island I can't believe you were rear ended there...(roll of eyes).............honestly the craziest drivers I have ever seen and I have worked in a lot of major US cities.
Also its a shame you guys don't have a drag strip on the Island...
PS...stay off the LIE!!!
