Maybe some others with better knowledge can help me out? I'm looking at a Ramcharger for sale in Salt Lake City and he states that the heads were swapped for 915 or 916 heads from a 1967 Dart 440. What's special about the 67 Dart Heads over 75 model 440 heads?

I personally think he's asking too much for it as he also starts the 440 was only available in the 74/75 model Ramchargers....however, when you research a little, you find that the Ramcharger was available with the 440 through the 78 model year. Maybe a kid who thinks he's got something really special when he really doesn't with mostly stock truck....haha.

915 close chamber heads...but could have a small exhaust valve..

No such thing as a 67 Dart 440 from the factory, so you really have no idea what he got them from. BUT, 67 was the last year of the closed chamber big block head which has a smaller combustion chamber. Using those heads in place of later open chamber head will raise the compression ratio.

Make sure you ask if the heads have the 1.74 exhaust valves....those were the HP ones in '67, from a GTX or Coronet RT. Chrysler's (Newports, New Yorkers and such) had the same casting number heads on their 440's, except they had 1.60 exhaust valves. I would think the 1.60 heads are worth a bit less.

The 440 915 heads "used to be" THE heads. Nowadays, not so much, with aftermarket heads, porting, etc

There is a "516" head that is closed chamber and has the 1.64 exhaust valve. The intake port also has a smaller cross section which actually makes it a great head for the 383. Easy to tell the difference between these and a "915" head. The 915 has the expansion cups in the ends like the "906" heads and the "516" does not. I have not encountered a "915" with small exhaust valves.

67 was the only year for the 915 heads with the large exhaust valve, however, the small exhaust valve 915 heads were made in 67 as well.

they were also put on 383-2 cars. (small valve heads) As stated above look for cups in ends of heads like a 906 on 67 cars. I have probably got a dozen sets of 915's over the years off 383 4 doors just because the experts said that it never was.

All of them had small exhaust valves when found on 383's
