Let's see those shops

-
here is the one that pays the bills
place was a dump (and still is)
not much i didn't do to it in the last nine years ....but not much left to do ...parking lot would be the big one
and if or when i replace the curved window
need to take a couple of days and clean organize everything hard to do when booked out two weeks all the time

You sound like my friend and his son who run a repair shop. Covered slap up with work 24/7/365! They don't advertise anywhere, but word of mouth keeps them busy. You're probably the same way. That's what a good reputation will do for you! You mentioned earlier that your shop above is an old gas station. As long as the tanks are gone and the EPA ain't breathing down your neck, you shouldn't have too many worries....well, other than property taxes. I heard from a friend who is a NJ native that property tax anywhere in the state is insane. He says he moved here from the PRNJ, lol.

Yea don't advertise and normally backed up two weeks
I do mostly euro cars and a lot of guys don't like them
I like the customers they are use to spending
I bought off some old guy that had the tanks removed. But everything he did was haft assed
So the first 5 years was doing the basics and working around it
The last 4 been improvements ...ac this year
I work 9 till6 ..(need to get the kid to school)
5 days the 9 till 3 Saturday too old to kill myself
Sundays are me days (Mopar days)
I make sure to do a nice upscale vacation once a year
And a couple of week ends
I like to work ...can't just sit around
So don't see myself every 100% retired
If im not working on cars like too work around the house

Kinda moved some stuff around today and optimized what little space I have. It gets the job done.

I thought that it was cool too
One of my first shop tools is my craftsman drill press ....sad to say in the last 45 years think I have used it 45 times
But works great when needed

Been looking for a new bench grinder
Mine must be 50++ years old
Got it 30 years ago the shop was tossing it cause it didn't have a shield
The new one they got was junk
Help knocked it over and broke one side housing off
When I see one come up on fb I message them.....but fb sux.....and im not buying a pos new one

Finally got that 4L60 rebuilt and the pickup out of the garage. I’d love to have a shop with a hoist but I’m super grateful to have a heated double.

When I bought my place in 2000 it had a 30x40 shop already. Unfortunately, some PO put in a workroom 10' wide down the long side of the shop, reducing the shop space to 20x40. It's gotten me by till now but ho-lee-crap was it ever a challenge to get anything done. I had to slither sideways everywhere to get around, and move 2-3 things to get at the thing I wanted. There was no horizontal surface that wasn't deep in piled up crap. Here's my current ****-show.

I finally decided to do two additions to make the shop workable. I added a 12x30 workroom behind, and a 20x40 carport on the side - which holds 4 cars easily. The shop has a mini-split for heat/AC, and the workroom has a small propane radiant heater and a (free from a friend!) portable A/C unit I can hook up at the exterior door.

I think we all know, the amount of crap you own will expand to meet all available storage space. Well, not this time. The workroom will be for storage and things I don't use much, freeing up the shop to actually use it as a shop. Go figure. Here are some progress pictures.

Here is the new workroom. It doesn't show the passthrough door yet but it's been cut out.

The old shop is getting a new roof which will match the new one. Pretty snazzy stuff for this hillbilly. The new shop roof is half done, the other side will get done when we get about two days break in the rain. Haha.

Here's the new shop roof.

And here's the other side, waiting for a break in the weather.

And a few shots of the passthrough. That was a project clearing out all the crap so we could cut through the wall.

Heck yeah man! That's nice. I am hoping to do something like that to mine before I die. lol

Yea finally got to work on the home shop
Spent more time cleaning and moving junk then construction

This is an update on mine .
The building is almost finished and I just need to do some landscaping work outside .
I still have to do the insulation and the interior panels on the walls .
I’m very pleased with the results so far .

That looks nice Tommy. With all them parts you've been hoarding up for the last little bit...it's already too small. :poke: Are you going to build a mezzanine at the back end of it? Looks like you have room.

Yes,,I’m planning on building a 12x36 loft at the rear .
It will be 8 feet off the floor and after adding the deck to it I will still have 7 foot clearance over head.

Tommy

so after about 8 years i started framing and insulating again on the pole barn
i bought a bunch of shelving and pegboard from a hardware store that closed
so i framed and insulated the back wall and built in 50' (no pics )
then started filling in the front wall did two sections built a little work bench and used the last of the shelving ,needed to keep it narrow cause its next to the lift
so two weeks ago started on the next section ,the little jerk thought it would be better to use partical board ....so i guess im doing the rest of the shop thst way
its about the same price but no paint and i hate spackling so thats this mismatch look ....
its nice to have some progress finally
the pic with the frame is my "shed" at the day job.....was a crappy lean-to and its framed out of my old deck
it was fun having the kid help....he doesn't like sawdust.....but when we were done he stepped back and i could see he was proud of what we did
