I just heard a few loud booms that really seemed to come from the sky. I jumped on Google right away of course and found out this is a pretty common thing that no one can really explain. Figured I would go ahead and stir up the crazies on fabo though. Anyone else ever hear these sounds. Any cincinnati members hear them?

We hear them all the time. Since we have Robins Air Force Base close by we get sonic booms on a regular basis when they are flying.

I thought about that since I live about a hour from wright Patterson. Someone who lives where I grew up which is about 40 miles the opposite direction heard it as well. I lived there for 22 years and never heard a sonic boom. I guess they usually try to do the super sonic tests at 40000 feet and over rural areas. I live in a highly populated area. I'm not sold on the sonic boom explanation.

I got some loud booms from the sky today also. They echoed around the mountains around my house. I believe a higher power might have made them though, then a little rain followed. LOL

No rain here and the radar is clear. If one of these things wakes me up I'll be one angry man though.

Around here it's usually someone touching off a high powered rifle and listening to it reverberate through the hills.

I hear a boom once in a while. It seems as it came from quite far away.
I never really questioned what it is. The Oconee Nuclear Station is close enough to me that I'm always thankful for what the boom isn't.

About 40-50 years ago an SR-71 was too low over San Antonio and shattered the windows of several buildings going super sonic -my grandfather was the head maintenance officer of the SAC base (Strategic Air Command) and the military just blaimed the regular fighter jets and paid for the windows.

The sonic boom is the most viable explaination outside of the off chance of ordinance disposal/ignition.

I live near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and yesterday they flew a LOT of flights. Kind of unusual for a Sunday. Maybe we're ramping up for something who knows. They usually don't go supersonic with the 18's out here, but that may have been what you heard.

Ok, then it's aliens on a recon mission to take over the earth. How's that?

I have one HELL of an SR71 story. YEARS ago when me and my first wife were married, we were going to Bonaire, Georgia for a cookout. Straight down Georgia 247 right in front of Robins AFB. We get about right in front of it and there's a cop car blockin the road. We were the first ones there. Lo and behold here comes an SR71 being towed out of the AFB and right onto 247. They were towing it to the Museum of Aviation like two miles down the road, and we were the FIRST car behind it. I was droolin the whole time. All the ex could do was ***** piss and moan about how we were gonna be late. I didn't even tell her what it was that was holdin us up. Evidently, they had done their homework about it fitting under the Russell Parkway overpass, because they were right there on all sides of it makin sure it fit.....and it did......barely. Talk about a sight I'll never forget. It took about 45 minutes total because they weren't cutting any slack, they really had their stuff together. Just one more reason to add to the pile that she's my ex.

Nailed it.

I was just curious if anyone lived anywhere else that heard these sounds. I guess it's real popular around the east coast called Seneca Guns. Some department of the government has placed microphones all over one of the areas trying to find the source.

Just thought it was interesting is all.

There's a lot of loud booms around my house as well. Usually after my wife eats a lot of dairy products.

you too? If the wife eats eggs that will do it as well. I hear them here in Eastern Washington some times. Fairchild AFB is only 31 miles from here, just assumed it was form them. I do hear a train air-horn every now & then, the nearest track is 17 miles or so, as the crow flies.

Not an SR71 story but....was riding near the Picatinny Arsenal one day with my now Ex on the back of the bike. Was sort of comatose, did not notice the chopper that was taking off from the field next to Rt 15. Ended up getting blown off the road and down an embankment...somehow I managed to not crash...
