Mini tubs, advice, do's & don'ts?

That's pretty much the same size tire I'm running but it BARELY fits....I'm talking less than a 1/4" front and rear. I may radius the fenders...

Here's a pic of my buddy, he was removing the undercoat.

Dam, hes a trooper!

Easy way to remove the old ashphalt based undercoat is to spray it liberally with WD40 and let it soak for a week. Then it will damn near fall off with a putty knife scraping it. I put some plastic sheeting underneath when i began scraping after a week of soaking with WD40. Every day i would go out to the shop and coat it and walk away. Did that for a week. Then scraped it right off. Lots of it fell off in chunks. Stubborn deposits left after that come off really easy when you warm it up with a bernsomatic torch. Then use rags dipped in laquer thinner to wipe everything down and remove the soaked in WD40 and little undercoating bits that are left.

Passenger side I drilled out the spot welds. This way made it way easier for welding and much quicker in fitting the cut out to the frame.

I got to do a paying job in the morning but after that its, lower the car over the wheels and tires and measure for the axles.

Any advice on strong axles for a 31 spline big bearing 9"?

31 is a small axle. Why can't you do at least 35 spline?

You can come and do mine when ur done !!LOL

I have to count he splines, the 3rd member is supposed to be bomb proof so maybe it's not 31.

It's been so long since I ordered the thing i cant remember. It's kinda funny the company shipped it in a 5 gallon bucket and dam of that thing ain't stuck in the bucket!
It's like the sword in the stone, no one can pull it out of the bucket. Today I'm gonna carefully cut the bucket in half and count the splines.

Big day today, lowered the car down over both wheels and tires. First time I've even seen a real tire under the car in 12 years.
I'm very happy with it. Gonna have to do some frame cutting to get it sitting where I want but that dont phase me.

9 inch housing. I ordered the back brace today. I figure I should weld the brace on before I have the flanges welded? This way if the axle warps or is already warped then the guys at the rear end shop can fix it in the jig?

The tube is nice and think so I dont for see any warp happening.

I count 35 spline so I think I ordered the right one?

I measured 54 3/4 inch "drum to drum."
That's the number I give to the axle company correct? They can figure it out from there right?

YEAH 35 spline is what you want. If you were going to put 14x32 bite on it and really best the piss out of it I'd say 40 spline but you'll be golden with 35.

NICE

NICE

I came up w/ a 72 vega built by east texas race cars back in 1994, finished it was a 600 horse sbc, turbo 400 . Had a ford 9" w/ 31 splines, it was fully tubbed by e,t,r., and I ran 14x32`s on it. The splines twisted enough that the axles were hard to remove and re install , but they never broke.
Wish I still had it !

Nice! Moving along faster than mine. We were out in GA for No Mercy 9 but we did get the boxes welded up before we left.
