My 1972 Dodge demon resto begins!

-
I made some progress today with my Demon. I started stripping down the rear of the car and getting it ready for paint. I put the new deck lid on. I replaced it due to the previous owner hacking it up to install the wing. I now have a factory cut-out lid and the wing will go back on the new lid. I removed the rear glass in prep for getting it painted. Amazingly I didnt bend the trim taking it off. Also no rust under the rear glass seal and all trim clips are like new.

It,s gonna be a real looker when done!I,m not to keen on the Plum crazy purple, but it,s yours. What is the orignal color?

Im not sure I believe its what you see. I have not decided completely on purple yet. I am cosidering silver also.

The Plum will look terrific. But to be different I'd do a white vinyl top instead of black, white interior and white stripes. =P~

Wylde1.

Great lookin' porject. I think silver with black top wouild be sweet. Dont recall seeing a silver Demon.....

Will be watching this thread as Im preparing for my own 72 Demon build.

Good luck

I think silver would kick ***, black interior, black top, black stripes scoop and wing, cool stuff there! I always like the Mopar silver/gray color, I think it is gun metal?

Hmmm Blue looks nice also but not my favorite. Appreciate thee advise though.

My vote for the color would be Winchester Gray, with Black longitudinal stripes.

Plum Crazy would not be my choice on a Demon, but only an E or Bbody factory big block car.

Other choices for colors you don't see very often on 1971 Demons: F3, F8, Turbine Bronze Metallic, B7 Jamaica Blue Metallic (AKA as Evening Blue), or the more common EV2 Hemi Orange.

Purple would be nice. As would orange. Then you would have some real colorfull cars. That yellow duster and dont you have a sublime dart sport also? I'll be watching. Cant wait to see some more.

I tore down the short block that I bought in a pkg deal from someone tonight. This was a rebuilt engine. [Yeah right] It looked new. new pistons, recond rods, arp bolts, ect. ect, Why in the world would I find 3 main cap bolts broke off under the windage tray! OMG I am glad I decided to do my homework. All three where on the driver side. They where every other main cap. Im talking the heads where gone. Good thing I got a super deal. This was actually a bonus. I can tell alot of machine work was done. Crank 10/10 bore 30 over ect. This has never been run. So anyway I am taking everything to machine shop. I am particularly interested in the line bore of the crank. I wont be taking it until my day off next tues. So stay tuned for updates.

I didn't catch what size this "super deal" mill was. Those certainly appear to be hi $ pistons. Yeah, broken main bolts would have my attention. Having the mains checked sounds like a good plan. How about having the crank tested to see if it spins "true", without wobble.

Ok took the disassembled short block to the machine shop today. The machinest seems to think he can find out what cam it has. He said he will get back to me in a few days to let me know everything that will be needed. Ok big question. If I go with plumb crazy purple what color should I paint the engine????
