I've been told these engines are supposed to sound like sewing machines. I think mine sounds a little noisier than that. I hear the exhaust leak, but there seems to be something else there.

What do y'all think?

Motor has about 6000 on the rebuild. Feels strong but this noise seems to be getting louder. Fixing the exhaust leak will quiet it down, I'm just curious if I have something else going on. Is there something I should be looking to adjust?

Is that a magnum 360??? Mine doesn't sound like that at all but it is a LA 360..And I haven't heard a 360 magnum sound like that either...It sounds like it is in the valve train more towards the lifters/tappets...What oil are you running???Bill

Its a la360

10.5 compression flat top pistons. I'm looking for the cam specs but it has a healthy chop.

10/30 with zinc

Fix your exh. leak, they can sound just like a bad lifter some times. If the tick is still there after the exhaust/header gasket gets fixed then worry about it.

When you get the header off, look for any crack in the flange/pipe that could be making that sound.

IF it was a lifter you probably would have felt a power loss with the new sound.

I hate to agree, but yeah, does sound like slop in the valvetrain to me too. Does it run any different than before you noticed the sound? On the other hand, you said yourself the noise gets quieter when you change exhaust gaskets...do you have adjustable rockers? Have you popped off the covers yet to see if you have loose or sloppy rockers?

Haven't changed the exhaust gaskets yet. Will work on the exhaust leak and report back. I'm guessing some slop in the valvetrain on the driver side as well. Don't know enough about it to know what adjustment there will be yet. Looks like a learning lesson in the works.

I had to ditch the factory rocker assembly for comp roller rockers and the cam was only .480. Quieted everything down.

Remflex gaskets are worth every frickin penny of the 50 or so bucks.
