I'm building a twin turbo 318 dart. :burnout:

What I'd like to do is get rid of all the belts and use the later model serpentine set up. I'm not up for spending the dough for the March pulley kit. I'll be using the Edelbrock FI intake.

Is it possible to swap over the magnum stuff to my early set up?

Thanks for any help you guys can give!

Yes.Grab ,the whole setup. Timing cover, water pump, pulleys, the whole thing.

2 issues you'll have to deal with

1. the magnum water pump is counterclockwise rotation so like Abomber said you'll need everything, including the timing cover because it's different

2. The harmonic balancer may be a challenge because if I remember right there was 2 styles. 1 had the lower pulley cast right onto it, the other was a bolt on but totally different bolt pattern than an LA balancer and the balance is different so you can't use a 318 or 360 magnum balancer on anything but them. Your only option there might be to pay a machine shop to rebalance the harmonic balancer (can we say big bucks) so it's balanced properly for your LA 318.

I know your not up to spending the money for March stuff but considering it's a lot cleaner setup and you'll most likely spend at least half as much for stock stuff, if not more due to the balancer issue, IMO the March setup is a better choice. Again, that's just my opinion and something to think about. Come to think of it there's one more option that might work also. Buy a 318 magnum with all the accessories on it. That way you don't have any accessory issues at all. It's all right there.

He should be able to use the magnum balancer for a 318 as they are all neutral balance. The 5.9 / 360 are the ones with the different balances

I know 318LA's are internally balanced but I've read conflicting information on 318 magnums. Some guys have posted they are still internally balanced but I've read where a couple guys have said they were externally balanced. I haven't been into one to confirm it. Have you verified this, or know someone that has verified a 318 mag is internally balanced? Thanks

Lmao! Mr Bonds, have you heard his take, with "Art of Noise"?.

The 5.2 change in balance in a non-issue. They're internally balanced. That means that any external accessories are all neutral-balanced. Start swapping rods or pistons, you're going to have issue, but flywheels, flexplates, balancers, etc. you're good to go.

Personally, I roll the Magnum goodies. Then, if there's any issue, the parts I need are a parts store or salvage yard away. Caveat: If you're not running A/C, you'll need the Dorman 34178 idler pulley or the non-A/C alternator bracket.

I run the Ram Van power steering pump and belt, and that puts the PS pump under the battery tray, frees up tons of room.
