Solid cam WITHOUT oiling mods?

Anyone run a solid cam WITHOUT bushing the lifter bores or peeing the oil gally?

I'm kinda new to this small block stuff, but was told (and read) that it's a must...

Anyone KNOW different??

it is not a MUST....

if something breaks in the valve train and a lifter comes out of the bore the engine will lose oil pressure...does not matter what kind of lifter it is...hydraulic...solid or roller...

it was recommend/required with roller lifter years ago...new roller lifters are now design not to uncover the oil galleries ...so it is not required with roller lifter now...

i am have racing with solid lifters for over 25 yrs with unmodified lifter bores.

Currently have 3 engines that are running solid lifter cams...with two more under construction...cams are from MP and Hughes.

Have a LA/eddie Magnum head engine with a Engle solid lifter cam that needs to oil thru the pushrods...so the pushrod need to get oil from the lifters...

If you want to bush the lifter go ahead...it will be insurance in event of valve train failure...other wise spend your money somewhere else.

A solid flat tappet you dont need to do anything at all. A solid roller it is my opinion that the lifter bores need to be bushed.

Install and run.
The mods to the oil galley are not needed for a solid cam.
The roller cams that normally see this mod are race cams.

Like I said, this small block stuff is all foreign to me...so I REALLY appreciate setting me straight.

Solid it is. And yes, there are plenty of places to spend dough without bushing the lifter bores!

hi, milidon and moroso both make a vally tray to keep lifters from coming out if there is a pushrod failure. very cheap insurance. will save the motor. been there , just food for thought.

Solid body lifters are available so you dont have to bush the lifter bores for soild or roller lifters.Comp Cams call them and speak to Chris Padgett.

sbm, the guy that worked with Comp to design them is a member here and elsewhere. That lifter does nothing to prevent lower end damage should something in the valve train fail. That's why I bush them. More tha for any other reason.

That is true but if you have a failure bushing the lifter bores arent gonna save the botom end if a rod lets go.Usually I run a lifter valley tray to help hold lifters in place in a stock block for dirt track and drag motors.

You can tube the lifter galley($100-$200) and drill each lifter hole with a .028-.030 hole and be less expensive than bushing the lifter bores($500-$600)
