Starter Problems(again)

Had my grandpa short it while I took a look at the inspection cover and the starters bad, flex plate and converter don’t move at all

The starter drive is probably all that's bad. But nobody fixes them anymore, so I would just put a starter on it.

The darkening is an indication of previous high resistance from bad connections or contacts.

Relays are cheap and with the spinning starter by shorting the relay. It's money well spent.

That you had no voltage drop while cranking says that with the key you have no load so the relay is not engaging.

. Use a remote start switch. i believe it hooks up to the small wire at the starter and battery hot. push the button if it cranks the starter flywheel end of it is good and its the relay. Disable the ignition or make sure the key is off or it may fire over on you if it is stick make sure its in neutral etc.

Another thing you could do is test light from battery ground to the small wire at the starter. Jump your relay with the screwdriver see if power is getting down to the starter small wire.

yes you could also use a volt meter in place of the test light but a test light is quick easy and affordable. Plus a test light ? you don't have to be looking right at it to see the light a meter you'll be jumping with the screwdriver abut looking at the meter it gets a little weird.
if you are new to auto electrical get a test light alot of quick go no go tests can be done with one. you dont need exact voltage a bright light is high voltage (12v) a dim light is low voltage ( less than 12v etc.) etc.

First make sure you've been in Park, then Try to start it after you've shifted into Neutral.

Why on Earth would you replace the starter when we've pretty much 100% diagnosed it as a bad relay?

A starter will spin when on the bench as its not under load then it wont work in the car when it actually has to. thecounter guys used to always bench spin them when I took them back and say "it works fine" Id say "not under load it dont..." but you have to try a relay now Im thinking yeah its clicking but the power isnt getting to the starter. could you try a jumper switch? I mean one lead to the small wire on the starter another to battery hot push the button see what happens?
something such as:

or toss a relay at it.

the voltage drop test and probing wires with a ,meter is great but noone really does that its the long way around Ive troubleshot cars with test lights its quick go/no go either it has power /ground or it dont. the meter comes out only on the most perplexing electrical problems. if I were you id jump that relay if it starts then its th erelay and i don tmean at the relay with a screwdriver you already know that dont work but what you also could do is test light it at the starter and see if power is getting through the relay down to the starter.
Oh ok I’ll have to try that after work today.

Yeah just do easy quick stuff don't take too much apart Im guessing from the last video here, the power isnt getting through your start relay to the starter... a test light would tell you that. Starter grounds through the mounting to the bellhousing so it shouldnt be a ground at the starter issue. Youll be looking for power getting down to the starter if you have power at the starter and it isnt cranking the starter is bad. By power I mean 12 volts + voltage

With a new relay and a remote starter I just get the same click. The key does the same as it did with the old relay.

That sure looks like a bum starter then if you had the remote start connected one end at the starter and the other at battery +
It happens and usually the parts guy freewheels it on the bench and it spins and they say its not bad. Etc.

Is the positive supposed to be on the battery? I thought it was the big connector on the big post and then small in small. Posts of the starter that is.

Does the engine turn over by hand? meaning get at least a 1/2" breaker bar on the crank nut.
