Starter Problems(again)

-
We have a jump pack, not sure why I never thought of trying it, definitely will in the morning. I had a thought, the negative cable end, word is slipping my mind right now apologies, has always been kind of loose it’s tightened as much as it gets but I can still work it off with my hand. Could that be causing problems, I imagine it isn’t helping, I’ve been meaning to replace them anyways
Yes to all of the above.

You can tighten the negative by removing the bolt and then file the inside flats (red arrows) that are making contact prematurely

But again put the negative lead on the terminal not the post and do a cranking voltage test.

Record the voltage then do the same but this time on the post of the negative.

If the voltages are the same the contact of the terminal to the post is ok. If not that illustrates what I was saying about the wire with only one strand. Too much resistance under load.

Filing the terminal to make it close right and tried the jump pack this morning and unfortunately, no change :/. I still don’t have a second person to see if there’s a voltage drop I will this afternoon though and will try.

That’s what I thought I thought flat battery but it read 12.5. So pretty much it’s replace those or is there something else I could to work it out before spending more money.
battery could be failing under load or you have a voltage drop somewhere etc.

Once he does a voltage drop test while cranking we will have a direction to go

It could be a stuck Bendix, it could be the alignment is way off, it could be the ring gear has a bad spot.

Too many possibilities right now

So j got a second set of eyes and I tired both ways and the voltage never went below 12.47V. I am going to look to see if we have any eyeloop ends big enough for the positive cable to the starter cause it could be better and maybe that’ll make a difference. I also turned it over by hand again just to verify and double check it isn’t locked up or anything.

Then my theory is power is not getting TO the starter. If it was, the voltage would be a bit below 12.74. Can we get a picture of the starter relay and all of its connections?

Apologies this isn’t a great picture she’s kind slow and hard to get under when not in the air, unfortunately the city kinda told us not to have them on jack stands sooo.

I find it strange that the voltage didn`t drop more than that. I tried that test on a brand-new battery and it dropped to 9 v, but it was actually turning over a big block, where yours is not turning over nothing, I guess.

you are going to HAVE to figure out a way to SAFELY get under there at some point if you are going to fix this. You have a driveway? Is it a save AKA level surface? Maybe you can cheat if you are scared of the city. Get it up on a jack and just put ONE jackstand under. Or do like we used to do "roadside emergency." Jack up that corner and drop the left front tire down on the spare laid flat on the ground.

What is the purpose of the second wire on the small terminal of the starter solenoid?

I know. My dad and I were kinda just going to do it anyways one guy we talked said it’s ok as long as it isn’t major work.
