Steps in compression test?

-
On overhead cam engines if one bank is high or low cam timing problem
Had high compression in only a couple of from rocker problems or very low initial pump

It doesn't matter
Really? When you have a chance, run a compression test COLD with closed throttle plates. Next, get the engine up to operating temp, block the throttle OPEN and run a comp test again.

Tell us your results. I think you'll be surprised!

dude admitted to not owning/using a torque wrench, you think he's got the least bit of a clue about results?

he just regurgitates information he's gleaned from the forum or parrots back answers from bing searches. so it's all half wrong anyway.

next thing you know he'll be chirping about swapping out for HEI and magick coils as the cure for what ails anything automotive.

Sorry to disappoint you but I do own a torque wrench and I've used one plenty of times. I've gotten good results taking compression test on a cold engine, if you squirt oil in the cylinder and the pressure goes up it's the rings

Compression test is a waste. All it shows is PSI in the cylinder. What if the motor was a DTM torque less half mile ring gapped turd to start with? Think it’s not going to have any kind of cylinder pressure anyways…

A leak down test is better gauge of the health of a cylinder. We do test when hot of the dyno, when we test on engine tear down we do cold as its just to see if it’s completely fubar before we start pulling the cams and head..

If I built the engine you'd be impressed with it's performance.

You guys don't want to admit that it's possible that the old school ways worked too. When I worked at the airport years ago we had lots of ground support equipment to check out every day and we didn't have time to let them warm up to check the transmission fluid, if the level is over full when cold it's on the full mark when warm, I'm sure that someone will argue with that

Oh goodness. lol

Its a diagnostic tool
Quicker to do a compression test
If i have spark and fuel then compression
On direct injection engines it's easier to do a compression test .then see if I have fuel on a missfire
Cylinder leak down won't find a bad cam or broken rocker
compression won't tell me if a have a valve or piston failure...so need both
then bore scope...
Current ramping the starter
Or relevant compression test is another way to find a missfire......it all depends on what your trying to fix

Ha when I build my engines im just happy if I don't have to re clock my distributor drive more then twice

Come on guys! Can't we all just get along. Learn a little, teach a little.

I have built, myself, many Mopar engines since I joined here in 2009. Some for me, some for other guys. All have worked out great.

Also did a pretty complete resto on my own Demon in 2010.

EVERYTHING Mopar, I learned here from guys like Rusty, Yellow Rose, Crackedback and many many more.

If y'all wanna hack at each other go on to the Moparts, Yellow Bullet, or even worse the AR15 forum. Those guys are merciless!

I don’t do AR15 anymore and I have a flame proof suit!!

All right guys, It's not fair to the OP that I close the thread because your testosterone get's in the way. There's some knowledgeable guys here but you can't seem to keep you mouths shut. I'll just start handing out vacations if it keeps up. Furthermore, Dan has as much right to be here as you do. You keep it up and your right to be here will go away. Put him on ignore. That works both ways.
