Stop in for a cup of coffee

Dude she dragged a bunch of stuff over to her friends to do a yard sale together a few weeks ago and now is telling the girl she won't do it until the proper notifications through social media and signage are ready. She still can't let go and now has begun piling **** up at someone else's house. Most of the stuff sitting here is not worthy of yard sale. A dozen old computer printers, a half dozen old toaster ovens, tons of empty boxes. Just crap. She has this thing with washing empty
jelly jars and containers. There are boxes of this stuff everywhere. Real life episode of Hoarders.

Well it was just a thought.

OK. Max is the fastest speed the DSL loop, circuit, can run, Balls out! Capped is what the provider has set the circuit to run, usually depending on how much you pay, your package. How this affect the inside wiring, it would be nice to know what the Max speed is at the MPOE, so you can tell how much advantage you might get by improving the IW problems. Ideally if you are paying for 10 meg internet speed, you will get 10 meg at the modem, with low Capacity. I have seen plenty of circuits that fit that scenario at the MPOE, NID, side of house, but drops off dramatically at the modem location. And any problems not in the house, is on the provider to fix.

Takes Techs years to learn to trouble shoot a DSL circuit. Don't feel overwhelmed. Best thing you can do is the Cat5 run to the Modem.

Dealing with my sister. I can't help someone that doesn't want help. Sad
I have a sister like that. Likely diff issues,... I offer help once in a while, but won't waste my time trying to do things for her if she is going to undo them right behind me. She usually won't even return a call.:BangHead:

22 calendars, packed up and ready for the Post Office...

Ok, maybe not so different.
My sister was a clothing hoarder. Bought stuff and threw it in piles till you could barely get through her room. Has improved with that, but other stuff going on...

My wife and daughter just ran off to the Mall to do some shopping. They asked if I wanted to go along.

Ummmm...there's not enough beer in the World to make that sound like a good time.

I've done some ping tests and the speed was OK. Is it OK to use a pair of the Cat 5 for the phone and another for the DSL?
On mine, outside from the junction (in my common alley) to the network interface box is a big flat wire almost 1 x 1/4". Funny, a bunch of the other wires are half that size. Going into the junction box is round cable about an inch in diameter (not FioS that's hanging from the pole in coil lol).

I should mention I swapped in a spare "Tuff Stuff" alternator this afternoon. Its kindof fugly looking. Charging at idle is much improved. Solved the squeak it had with a little DeOxit on the brush rings.
Turns out I only have 4 extra alternators. lol. I thought I had more. The one I removed is a square back. Case was a little loose, as was the output stud. I'll check the diodes and see what it needs and probably fix it myself.

I know mass quantities of beer can affect your vision and judgment.
I was unaware it could affect hearing.

And you said ground the orange wires...at the outside box? Do I only use the blues in the RJ11 at the modem?
Is cat5 any better/worse than phone wire for the phone circuit? And as Matt asked, what about mixing in same cable?

Yes cat5e is better than standard phone lines

Yes common to use the different pairs in a Cat5 cable for different things.

Grounding the O/W pair on the drop helps shield the DSL pair. Use B/W pair to modem.

Bzzzt. Incorrect.

There are 6 fingers in that picture.

And before you try to get clever and claim that a thumb is not a finger, think again. The normal human hand has 5 fingers, each with a different name. The thumb is just one of the 5 fingers (digits) and simply happens to be opposable and apposable to the other 4.
