Odd... I just checked the BMV's website and created a log in, they show that thing still owned by me but that the plates last were registered 9/23/2015... I sold it November of 2015. So whoever I sold it to, never transferred the title or plated it legally... Looks like I'll be going to the BMV tomorrow.

Would you believe I got stopped one night because they were looking for a guy driving a Barracuda? It was Jersey too. He didn't tell me that at first, but after I handed him my expired photo license with my current typed one, he thanked me and told me. I don't know if they were looking for an A or an E, they probably didn't either!
There are people in jail for someone else. But for the most part they get the right one.

Got another story - this one directly related to the title not transfered. Gal got a call or summons about her car at the bottom of a cliff. (north jersey, Picatinny arsenal area so could have been a quarry face or natural short cliff) It was a car she had sold a while before. Who ever had it 'dumped' it, and the local LE traced the VIN back to the last owner of record. She got it worked out in the end.

I had something similar back in the late 80s when I got a call from the State Police that a car I had sold a few months earlier was found stuck in the woods behind the Franklin Mint. Apparently the dumbass kid I sold it to decided to go off road with it before changing the title over.
Since I knew the kids name and where he lived, they went over to his place and stuck it on him. He fessed up after they told him the complete details of the sale.

i have no desire to ever see that thing again. It did its job but was wore out. I bought it at 67,000 miles, sold at 196,000. Now according to the car fax that was included in the letter, 204,173.You still own it. Go get it!

In PA, the plates stay with the seller and aren’t given to the buyer. We are also supposed to go to the DMV or licensed agent to do the title transfer. Back in the 80s you could just sign the title over though. Plates you still had to keep.
