Stop in for a cup of coffee

I'm not sure if they do mail order or not, I always walk in since it's about 5 miles from my house... The one guy there recognized our alternator as an old Chrysler "round back"... He used to own his own alternator shop in the old days, but the larger corps were too much to compete with and he had to close it...

Here's the link to their web site, try contacting them to see... They make their own parts in house and can upgrade to higher amperage if you want...

Thanks. The fact they can rewind is impressive. I've learned the hard way that sometimes even local rebuilders are hacks.
That's how this one got sand blasted and drilled.

It died that weekend while driving into Albany. At the first rest area I did a little troubleshooting since I had brought a spare VR and ballast resistor, but not an alternator.:BangHead:

I use a puller to get pulley off alternators but how do you get it back on...got to have the back half off ????

When I see new alternator parts for sale now, most are WAI / Transpo made you know where. Quality could be anywhere.
Maybe some rebuilders have a few other sources. But at least one that can rewind has more options, and almost certainly has experience with what will work out in the long run.

I edited my post with this while you were reading it and not sure if you saw my added comment on:

If you need some parts and they will sell them separate, I can pick them up and mail them to you if they won't ship...
Double tanks on that!

You're right, I was too busy typing my tale of whoa.

I think those have to be pressed on with the rotor out. I (We at the parts store) WENT THROUGH A HALF A DOZEN ROUNDBACKS BEFORE I got the single groove pulley I needed. Damn tablet keyboard.

From what I've read in the shop manuals, a big YES.
They say support the shaft when the pulley is pressed on.

It's pretty easy to seperate the case.
Best to remove the brushes first. Then the three case screws.
Only trick is to remember the stator is attached to the back half, rotor to the front.
When you pull the front, make sure the stator stays with the back half, or you'll do like I did yesterday on one of them.

Can those alternators be converted to dual field?

I have a pile of the single field ones that I took off cars that I electronic ignition converted.

I convert them all because I don't fiddle with points

Eat a raw jalopeno and you can scrape the seeds out.

I'm not sure if I can handle them straight... I've had some that I can handle, and some that are too hot for me....

But it would numb my throat where I couldn't feel anything... :wtf:

I believe that they can... If you have a dual field and only need a single, I've seen where they ground the extra field terminal...

Contact them and see what they can do... If they don't do mail order, I can be the middle man for you...

However, I don't see why they would not do business in the mail...

P & G sandblasted and cleaned up my son's old alternator that looked pretty beat up and it looked brand new when they were done...

They have done great work for me so far...

Who are "they " and I was asking about converting from single field to dual field.

:)

Cut it up and eat a little then,it will help clear the congestion...nose maybe a little running but you'll feel better.

I can tell whenever you post because I get a glimpse of one cherry *** 66 dart. Even when I wasn't into early A's, I always liked that car. Red suits it so good and it just has a clean and innocent personality for a car.

Uh. Kindof. But its brutal.
That's what the guy did here. Drilled a hole so a second insulated brush could be installed. For no reason may I add. I've always used a positive control regulator (aka single field).

Inside view of the unmolested one. The grounded brush uses the cast in brush holder circled.
