What happens when a "12 volt" light bult is supplied with power at 18 Volts?
or a 110 V bulb is hooked up to a 220 system?
Prolly the same thing to the motor. More votlage => more draw. Could have damaged a motor winding or solder connection. Just guessin here

Starts well with the 12 volt but it is a 6 volt system everywhere else
Fingers crossed on the ECU. You can bet that the previous owner hasn't jumped it with a wire to get it started since he put it together in 17' . I am thinking component failure.
Wonder if they put a 12V starter in from a conversion?
From what we talked about prob a ecu or pickup. Both are on the way and a spare China ecu.

Weather guessers are all over the place this week. (surprise, right?) Based on yesterdays outlook, should have been wet out this morning. Nope. Now just a slight chance of a noonish shower. A couple days back they showed next weekend in mid 70s. Then yesterday they dropped it by 15 both days. Now they have Saturday back to 71. And that's all from the same source. Useless....
My old customers that did a lot of old tractor conversions switched to 12 volt. A pertronix in the stock distributor with a ballast and 12v. coil as needed. Hang on a 1 wire alternator and take the 6 v regulator out of the system. I don't remember them doing anything with the starter. They changed the bulbs (if there were any) to 12v.
I should be set. It obviously worked once, now it doesn't. Something broke. The ECU and pick up I didn't test.
No idea on them. Bet my friend with the farm yard will know.
Now you just need to find some one that is good with tools that can work on it!
I know my way around the tool box but I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer when it comes to elextrical diagnosis. I'm learning though.
And having known good parts is a plus.
