Talk Me Out of Buying This Tin Grille

A deal has been struck! He's out deer hunting today but is going to meet us tomorrow afternoon. I'll post some pics on the way home.
Congrats!

I wish I could have found one in that condition here in Canada.

Complete Unicorns here LOL !

I'm late to the party here and maybe it has already been mentioned, but these trucks have the tendency sometimes for the frame to crack next to the steering gear box. I always check that before buying one of these . If it is not cracked there is an aftermarket bolt on brace for that problem. It seems that as they have gotten older it is showing up more often. I have put the brace on 2 of my 4. I got the braces from Dodge Connection. :steering:

Thanks. @abodyjoe mentioned it earlier in the thread and I didn't look at that area when I went to look at it last week. I will look at it before any money changes hands.

This is a pic that I took last week.

That's some good information there. You get the FABO Gold Star for the day!

They are even on sale!

Dodge Connection power steering brace

Id definitely be leery about that frame since it's been notched

And have him give you the other hood
I love those...are the cowl bolt on

The hood was not included in the deal. My previous 79 had the same flat hood so I'm gonna run what it has for awhile. There are TONS of things that are higher on the priority list.

both my lil red express trucks were cracked there.. the first truck i had to find that brace off a ramcharger in the junk yard. guess that was dodges fix. dodge connection wasn't making them yet.... we had to pull th ebox, weld it up and bolt the brace on.. steering felt much tighter with the brace for sure..

i bought that for my second LRE. its a nice looking piece.. looks just like originals. i never put it on. sold it with the truck for the new owner to install.. i actually bought the brace and had it laying on a shelf before i ever thought about buying another truck.. it was cheap and figured i may need it one day..lol 79 bucks is still cheap.. put it on even if the frame is not cracked yet.

holy crap. 21 bucks shipping..

.

From the pics that frame looks excellent.

The notches and bracing the mounting area for the power steering mount are very minor repairs as you have easy access to all areas needing attention.

If that truck had to be for sale any where near me , you would never had to worry yourself about those issues...It would be in my garage instead!

Great truck!
Keep us updated with the build ! :canada:

We made it home safely. The truck is tucked away in my buddy's pasture and will sit there until probably next summer sometime. In the meantime, I can start gathering parts and making plans. Like I mentioned earlier, I've got a 318/727 combo that came out of another tin grille truck and will drop right in. I'll keep you all updated and use this as my build thread. Thanks for all of your help so far!

We were actually trying to i.d. the wheels so we could figure out the size. They say Chrysler on one the caps. Does anyone know what these originally came on?
