Thoughts and best wishes for a former Marine

-
Thanks Rob. He calls himself a Former Marine and I’m not about to argue with him. Even At 81 years old and now fighting this infection, he could probably still kick my ***!

I will call him whatever he wants to be called...with total respect.

Prayers sent.
My dad went by Former Marine, also. He said EX-Marine is incorrect. Somewhat generational, I think.

Prayers coming for your father-in-law. He sounds like one really great man. We'll have to get his orders extended for Earth duty!

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts everyone.

Just got an update a short time ago. Len is holding his own for now. The antibiotics are holding things in check with his fever staying at 101* and not spiking like before.

The surgeon will continue to monitor him and will re-evaluate on Monday unless something changes between now and then.

Fingers crossed for a calm weekend of continued recovery. He’s not out of the woods yet, but at least it’s not getting worse and maybe (hopefully) stabilizing.

Thanks again.

It’s been about 10 days since I last updated this thread. Len was put on new antibiotics with a home I.V. infusion system just after my last post. He has 4 more days with it. It has been up and down since.

He saw the surgeon again today and while the incision is healing slowly and still weeping, it is healing. Also, it has been 3 days without a fever so things are looking hopeful. He sees the surgeon again on Monday unless something changes.

Thanks again for all the thoughts, prayers and best wishes. We really appreciate it. It has been a comfort.

Thank you for the update.
I'm glad he's doing better.
I wish him well !

Last update on Len’s condition and it’s great news. He turned the corner not long after my last post and has healed up well since then. He won this battle!

In fact, he has done so well that he was cleared to receive his first COVID vaccine dose at the end of last week.

In his words... “I never expected to get to 80 years old and after having beaten this surgery problem, I am happy to get the vaccine to maybe help get me to see 90 years old. Any good Marine knows about what getting more armor means...and I will gladly take any advantage I can get.”

Yessir! You go Len!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts. This Marine is still fighting!

That's badass man. I am glad he beat it!

I am sad to say that this Marine, Len, has passed suddenly at age 84.

He wasn’t feeling quite well about a week and a half ago and went to the hospital to get checked out. They diagnosed pulmonary edema and admitted him. The began treatment and a few hours later he was feeling much better and send his wife home to get some sleep and come back to the hospital in the morning.

Shortly after midnight, he crashed and went code blue. They revived him…but a few hours later, he was gone.

He lived life fully and was completely independent and active right up until the moment he died. That’s as good as anyone could ever hope for.

We are saddened by his passing and it has been a difficult time getting through stabilizing his surviving wife financially as well as helping my wife cope with the loss of her father. But, we are getting there…and doing was needs to be done.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers on his illness that I originally posted this thread about and know he survived for another 3 full years of life.

We will never forget him.

So sad to hear of the loss of your father in law.
May he rest in peace, and may you and all those close to him be comforted in the knowledge that he lived his life to the fullest and by his own rules.

Sorry to hear of Len’s passing. He sounds like a great man that put everyone ahead of himself. He did a lot for the country and for all the less fortunate kids his healing hands touched. May he rest in peace. My prayers and thoughts go out to everyone affected by his passing. Kim

Sorry for your family's loss Dave. RIP Len.

Sorry for your loss. It’s not easy.
Lost both my folks in 2022 and though we’re all good, I have tears in my eyes as I type this. May God give you all the peace and comfort that can only come from Him.

@Ddaddy RIP Len!
