What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

After owning this 72 demon for 4 years, (whew, time flies) I shamed myself into wanting to work on it.

Just changed the K frame and about to drop in a mild 340 / 833 overdrive.

I really need to work on that grille and get all the flat black spray bomb off it.

I don't waste good mopar parts, the slant that came out of the demon is a good running engine that needs TLC and needs to be appreciated. (Numbers matching to the demon to boot)

This will be cleaned up and move on to power my 65 valiant wagon.

First time I've had a working Rim Blow in 30 years!!! The horn contact was broken so replaced the turn signal switch and found a matching lower column cover. Big thanks to Dave Tays (woodgrainwheels.com) for replacing the Rim Blow switch and giving me some guidance on the process.

Now gasket matching the two dual quad intake manifolds.
The first is the Edelbrock D64, which was made for the '64-'65 273 head bold angle, the bolt flanges have had an "attitude adjustment." And the bolt holes are good.
The second is the Offenhauser 5488. Same thing with the bolt flanges and bolt holes.

I will have to do some looking to get the part number for the large flute 1/8" shank dremel bits that I'm using to cut the aluminum. Spraying penetration oil every now and then as I am cutting is keeping the tool clean. I am running the dremel at around 12,500 rpm.

edit:
I found the tool bit part number I'm using.

The planned carbs are a pair of Eddy 500 cfm AVS 2 carbs. If memory serves, the carb is p/n 1904. No idea yet if I want to run straight or progressive linkage.

The Eddy is a dual plane, the Offy is a single plane. I will be testing them both at Sears Point.
And around town. Bahahaha!!! Muwahahaha!!!

I made some 22 gage stainless blockoffs and will be fitting them to the manifold gaskets.

Waking up at the crack of noon to make breakfast and getting to work on the manifolds.

Every time I look at that exhaust crossover in the things, I want to get it tigged up. We shall see how the little steel plate does.

Before pic.

Done with the runners and bolt flanges on the Eddy D64. I have the creepy suspicion that ill want to replace the hose barbs at the front of the manifold.

Here is the tach bracket I made for this 5" tach in my 67 Barracuda. I wanted it to come off the pillar, and place the tack right in front of the dash pad. (The body on this tach is deep, necessitating mounting it in further for windshield clearance)
Obviously, I will have to modify the plastic trim piece that covers the pillar.

Went to drive my car today and while moving it out the horn was beeping when I turned the wheel. Oh boy. Took off the Tuff wheel and checked the ground wire and it looked ok. Got the puller and took off the adapter and found the gasket/bushing piece broken in between the metal ring and the bottom of the steering wheel adapter. I had no idea what it was for but got all the broken pieces out and put it all back together loosely , Connected the battery and now the horn stays on. Does anyone reproduce this part I need? I luckily had a gold steering wheel I will never use that had the same part and I used it. Didn't go for a ride but the horn seems to be working only when I want it to now.

Today our Mopar club (All Around Mopars in Kitsap Co. WA) did our first Corona virus event - a No-Contact Cruise. We had 17 cars from 1964 to 2019. We were outfitted with masks and gloves, did our social distancing at the stops and a good time was had by all! It was a 130 mile loop mostly on beautiful 2 lane rural roads with many sections along Puget Sound. My 70 Dart Swinger was one of 5 A-bodies that turned out.

I had a oil pressure sending unit blow its top and empty the oil onto the ground. Lucky the I noticed the dummy low pressure light up and shut down right away. Relatively fresh engine build second oil change. No damage luckily caught it in my parking spot.

Luckily I had a spare or it be weeks waiting for a new one. Have a **** oil spill to clean up though... had to curbside order a bag of absorb all

Can't you just get intake gaskets with the block offs in them?

I have no clue. Ill look around, but I already did most of the work. All I need to do is bolt the heads to the manifold and see where the mark is, then cut the gasket with an exacto knife, and I should be good. Plans are to stick the blockoff to the manifold with some high temp formagasket. The locktite stuff is rated up to 650*F and the permatex to 500*F. If my creaky brain remembers right.

Gotta pick up a 3/8 - 16 tap to clean out the threads first. Maybe they'll have one at home depot on my way home from work tomorrow.

In the Charger, installed the rear view mirror power tap for the new radar detector. Get the 15" wire one. The 10" wire is too short. I had to mount the detector to the right of the mirror. That should not be an issue though because I plan to get a dash cam and that mounts in front of and to the left of the mirror.

I figure that I can do a power line through the speaker area on the barracuda if I am too lazy to run a line up the A pillar. That's assuming that I can mount it up on the wink mirror and keep it hidden.

i picked up the steel for the sub frame connectors yesterday
these things are solid, looks like 1/4 inch wall

as long as they will fit across the rear frame rails i guess ill be fine

measured it and looked at the receipt...1/8th wall (but they sure didnt skimp on it)
