    Wangaratta; elevation 1070 ft;
forget about 300rwhp from a NA slanty.
That's like 350 crank HP! It's hard enough to get that out of a streetable 318
Seriously; you need a 340/360, to bring the rpm down into street territory, and still be fun to drive in town, you know; in "Drive".

I didn't make Garlits this year. Had to leave just after getting there.
You didn't by any chance get his name, or where he was from, did you?
Don't know of many slants in this area running nitrous.
PS: I have sprayed my 170 at 225 HP. (on occasion)

I think by the time you get done with the slant 6 & take it down a drag strip 1 day, you'll be wanting to go faster. Better to start with something that's easy to get 300 hp at the wheels, maybe 383 4bbl, they're alot cheaper than building a slant for power, what car are you building?

It's just the easiest way. Depending on parts available , I'm not familiar where wangaratta is

Rusty, I'm no good at computer stuff but the whole build is on the net in the Mopar Muscle archives around 2006.A man named Richard Nedbal of Fastman fuel injection and Hemi engine builder collaborated with me to do the build. He was the only person that believed in what I wanted to accomplish. Most just laughed at me or just flat out said NO.
        This is it I think..

Now my brain is foggy, but I'm remembering an 11 second 4 cyl '62 ??? Pontiac that used to run at our strip. Maybe '64, can't remember. But it was a factory 4 cylinder car, like a 389 using only one bank. Just bought 1 aftermarket head, used on header, etc. He got the car to go 11's N/A. Where there is a will, there's a way. Certainly there could be some hope for the N/A 225.

You can get a /6 to run a lot better for cheap. but you should have realistic expectations. The easy stuff is mill the head about .060 to .080". Get a cam and lifters in the 268 duration and .450 lift or less. Get a factory 2 barrel intake and carb. Since you are running a 66 Valiant, you could use a 66 Commando Intermediate 2 1/2 pipe, muffler, tail pipe, and have a head pipe made to connect. That would transform your factory /6 but would not get you 300hp. It would be fun!

I've done several Slant engines.Milling the head usually around $100. One was cut .100 and another .125. Now this depends on how much lift your cam is but usually never a problem using stock pistons that are way down in the whole.
Years ago a well known Slant racer Mike Jeffery said to use the 3-100 method.
.100 off the head .100 off the block and .100 over bore for a good starting point.

300RWHP, is more than 350 crank.
              350/225=1.555 hp per cube.
And OP wants it to be a streeter........
              That would be like a 318 at 495hp, or 360 at 560hp,
for which good heads are already available.
IMO, a NA 225 at 300RWHP, for the street; is not feasible. And even if you built it, it ain't gonna be a DD. Probably not even a good weekend bomber. And for me the big deal is waiting for the rods to come flying out the side of the motor at the rpm she is gonna have to turn, cuz you know, the stroke on a 225 is 4.125 .............. and the pistons are only a tad bigger around than coffee-mugs.
              As to
The engine in the linked article, it has pretty much only two stock parts left, the block and the head castings. At 13.25 Scr and a 270* cam, the bottom end below 3200 will be about as strong as a 5.2M. But where are you gonna buy gas to support the 235psi cranking cylinder pressure? IDK either; Fogedabowdit.

              Static compression ratio of 13.25:1.
              Ica of 64*
              At sealevel
              Effective stroke is 3.23 inches.
Your dynamic compression ratio is 10.59:1 .
Your dynamic cranking pressure is 235 PSI.
V/P (Volume to Pressure Index) is 126

You are right. When the engine went in the car several changes were made. One being thicker head gasket if I remember .044 to lower the compression. Different intake and carb.different ignition, headers and so on. I sold the EFI set-up to a guy for his street car.Never rev'd it high.Shifted it at 5800 into second and 6000 third. Would I do it again ? no. The cost was way too much. But sometimes it's fun to try to do the impossible.I had personal reasons for doing the build. The 64 in my avatar ran 16's and was just as much fun. That was with a 2.94 gear.A car that cost a total of $5000.
I really didn't want to bring the article up as I got brow beat for months after it hit the stand. Why? How come? You should of. you suck, bullshit it's fake. What a waste of money. All that. Such is the life of the unwanted, redhead, stepchild.

I blew the bottom end out on a couple of slants when I ran over 5000 rpm
Got one with a steel crank and I was ✅

Seems like slants and big money go together.

I'm building a hyper pak clone. I have no idea how fast or powerful it is going to be but I can say I have a ridiculous amount of money into it so far.

Big power expectations and cost effectiveness in one sentence needs a v8.

I'm doing it for nostalgia and a show piece. But I have the block decked, head milled .090. 030. Over pistons. Hyper pak spec cam (i don't remember off the top) headers and a Clifford hyper-pak replica intake.

I'm thinking it should be a lot more than a stock six but probably not 300hp. For the money I could have already built 3 small blocks.

Why bother? Just stroke a 360 to a 426 and call it done. :poke:

From zero to 60mph, what can a stroked 360 do any better than a not-stroked 360; I mean besides starting in second gear, lol.

Probably 220-240 HP. Be really fun and different in a A body. That would sling an early A around pretty good.

                  Hi Hyper
Thanks for the information, I wasn’t sure if people on this forum just want people to get straight to the point but yes I should’ve given a bit more info to get a better reply.
I know this is a bit last know but I’ve got an ap6 I basically just wanted an old school car that I could still afford and have a hot engine that really cranked out some fun power!, I’m 50yo and never had something cranky so to say and yes I could’ve got a V8 and something newer that would certainly have more power but I really wanted an old school car.
I’d seen some 245 and 265 engine’s really crack hard without spending a fortune so for 6k and thought that the 225 might be similar but I’ve obviously been mistaken lol, so perhaps I might have to look at the turbo side of things but guessing that won’t be very cheap either.
Anyway thanks for your time and help it’s greatly appreciated.
                  Cheers
