Why is it called a motor mount?

-
i think the real question is...why are you posting this in the general area of the forum and not in the thread devoted to these sorts of questions?
You got me there. I meant it more as a LOL than anything. Maybe I should have posted it in Jokes and Anything Goes. Someday I'll get the hang of using this website. Good thing I have you to keep me honest, DIY.

I'd call them insulators. Mopar calling them "engine mounts" in their FSM's. In Industry, "Motor controls" are generally electric switches, relays and contactors.

People have been incorrectly using terms for generations.
Often a meaning evolves or changes. As a kid I in the summer I would wear thongs on my feet; now thong is worn on a different part of the body. And car guys used to talk about carbs and trannies...

Great thread! Nublu, you had me at several years of thermo--- I barely made it out of the second quarter! And I agree with your comments, I was taught by the high school teacher, the USAF, and college that motors are electric and engines are internal combustion, etc. No reason for anyone to get hostle or demean the other.

Agree washing machines have motors, cars have engines.

I can remember anti smoking posters in the hall of my junior high school that depicted a stick boy smoking a cigarette and it said " Don't be like all the rest, don't smoke ****!" Well that meaning has certainly changed.

my buddy hurt his leg and the Doctor said it was going to affect his motor ability.
...now what?

Interesting contemplation ... though I am much more concerned on why the expression is "to take a crap" ... when ... after all ... you are really leaving it.

Then again .... one can really not give a crap as well. I guess that would be constipation.

So when I'm gonna leave someplace, I now gotta say
I'm gonna engine, I'll see you later.?
At least until we are all driving electric cars.

I wonder what Lemmys thoughts would have been on this.
