We had Pat's in the 60's where guys with the hot cars would come to and hang out. This was before organized cruise nights, it was just the place to go to see muscle cars anytime.

The other place had a couple nights for cruise night, .. one of the first of that type in the area that I could recall.. both long gone.

We used to race underneath this bridge (Skyway) where there was a road that really went nowhere and had no traffic. Only bad part there was only one way out, and sometimes the police would herd us like cattle and roadblock the exit road. Needless to say a lot of muffler and any other tickets were handed out.

Down here in Houston, we had Prince's Hamburgers, Ritzy Drive in, the old MacDonald's that was drive in only, The Buccaneer drive in, & a few others that I cannot remember. Unfortunately I have no pictures, but then again that was 50+ years ago. AH, the good old days.

Balboa blvd. In Newport Beach. Got ugly and rich homeowners petitioned the police to stop it. Beach Blvd was too long , like 25 miles to find some competition. Sunset strip/Hollywood Blvd in LA was crazy. Went there once and never went back. Got bumped by a car behind me, rubber sidnt do anything to my chrome bumper but guy didnt seem to give a shit so I was out.

We met up at the Krystal on Vineville in Macon. Now gone. Peake Road in North Bibb County. Now over developed. Northside Bowling Alley, now gone. The dirt hill which has long since been cut down and developed. Spur 19 which is where we all went to settle scores 1/4 mile at the time. Now way too developed to do any of all that. Godfather's Pizza in south Macon. That's probably bout it.

Anybody from the Salem Virginia area? For many years starting in 1999 I used to frequent Fast Freddies - gourmet fast food and around 150 cars in a cruise in every Friday night. Are they still in operation???

Hopkins Minnesota ,Bumper to bumber cars every Friday and Saturday night .
The city actually redesigned Main St so that it zigzagged thru downtown !
Hotrod did an article on Hopkins Cruise nights.

                  That was in the 70s

I'm not far from Salam about an hour away. I'm pretty sure fast freddies is still there on main street.

200-250 of my closest friends used to 'run' Corwin Rd in AppleValley CA. friday & sat nights. Locals and car from other cities around would line up all night until cops shut us down, someone crashed or day light would start to come in.
It was so desolate back then (25-30yrs ago), we had actually painted a huge start & checkered finish lines on a 1/4 mile paved portion of it, which no one ever messed with.
This (below) is what it eventually turned into....

One of the spots for illicit street activities was Barstow Rd. on the way to Lucerne Valley :steering:. CB radios helped . Quite a popular area for off road racing there now. I think it's called Johnson Valley. I lived there 20 yr and never knew it had a name .

Lived on Balboa, right behind the Air National Guard hangars at Van Nuys Airport. Go to Tommy's Burgers on Victory, then head to Van Nuys Blvd. Every now and again those Guardsmen would roll the C130s out of the hangars at 3am to surprise the neighbors . Wouldn't fly anywhere, just sit on the tarmac and test their RPM capabilities .

Ft. Lauderdale strip back in the day. Make a few laps, park and hang out for a bit then head to NEBAS (like an Arbys) just off the beach. That's where all the cars came together. The B.S flew and races were set up. Do people still cruise and randomly hang out??? It seems like its all organized events now. Half the fun used to be getting there!

As a teen, Gratiot Avenue was our closest option. These days we choose to go to Woodward Avenue.

Chuck A Burger was one but it had a small lot and unless you had a really nice car they wouldn't let you on the lot on a Saturday night.

So we would go to Cross Keys Shopping center where the only thing open after 8 on a Saturday night was McDonald's and the Movie theater which left a huge parking lot to hang out at. There you would get a couple hundred cars on a Saturday night. Bob Chandler would sometimes drive up one of his in-progress monster trucks

Now your talkin! That and Telegraph made us the motor city madhouse. Sveden house parking lot held up to 700 cars and every saturday night would fill up. Every hot rod and work in progress tryin to walk the walk. $20 in gas and you could run all night. Everything from Moms car with a hole in the muffler to full boogie strip machines with no business being on the street. Me and my 2 best buds would run with our CB radios on. If he got beat I would try them and if they beat me they could try my other hotrod buddy. Few survived the trifecta! Mid 70's, good days.

Great thread! There were two main spots one was in my hometown it was a county park by a reservoir all the kids would pull their cars into the outside parking spaces forming a semicircle. There was some real great representation of old muscle and classic cars the top dog was a pro built Rambler scrambler roller camshaft and a tunnel ram with a lace red white and blue paint job and smoked acrylic hood scoop what a beauty, the list also included GTOs Z28 hypro Mustangs Boss Mustangs RS SS Camaros Oldsmobile 442 RT Challengers 340 Cuda you get the idea beers babes burnout in fist fights oh yeah and flaming burnouts LOL

Cruising outlawed on South Main Street, Salinas, California where I used to hang out (and found the love of my life-but we later broke up). We used the restroom (and sometimes even ate there) at a coffee shop located at 32 John Street, now called Norma's but back in the '70's it had a different name (Golden West).
