I'm not far from Salam about an hour away. I'm pretty sure fast freddies is still there on main street.Anybody from the Salem Virginia area? For many years starting in 1999 I used to frequent Fast Freddies - gourmet fast food and around 150 cars in a cruise in every Friday night. Are they still in operation???
200-250 of my closest friends used to 'run' Corwin Rd in AppleValley CA. friday & sat nights. Locals and car from other cities around would line up all night until cops shut us down, someone crashed or day light would start to come in.
It was so desolate back then (25-30yrs ago), we had actually painted a huge start & checkered finish lines on a 1/4 mile paved portion of it, which no one ever messed with.
This (below) is what it eventually turned into....

As a teen, Gratiot Avenue was our closest option. These days we choose to go to Woodward Avenue.
Chuck A Burger was one but it had a small lot and unless you had a really nice car they wouldn't let you on the lot on a Saturday night.

So we would go to Cross Keys Shopping center where the only thing open after 8 on a Saturday night was McDonald's and the Movie theater which left a huge parking lot to hang out at. There you would get a couple hundred cars on a Saturday night. Bob Chandler would sometimes drive up one of his in-progress monster trucks
Lived on Balboa, right behind the Air National Guard hangars at Van Nuys Airport. Go to Tommy's Burgers on Victory, then head to Van Nuys Blvd. Every now and again those Guardsmen would roll the C130s out of the hangars at 3am to surprise the neighbors . Wouldn't fly anywhere, just sit on the tarmac and test their RPM capabilities .
