On the highway today my left upper ball joint popped out of the control arm. When I installed them a few months ago they screwed in a little too easily so I wasn't that surprised when it happened.

I was thinking about cleaning, sanding, and scoring the UCA's and Upper Ball joints then putting a good amount of JB Weld in the the thread area, then screw them back in to cure. I would also seal the underside with a nice bead of JB too. They are brand new PST Ball joints so I don't care about taking them back out of the arms.

Has anyone tried this?

My other option would be getting a mobile welder to stop by. Not sure how well the grease and joints would react to the heat though.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

JB welk although it is a miracle cure for somethings it is still just a plastic epoxy and won't take the abuse of a ball joint. A good welder knows how to weld the b/j in with out boiling the grease out

send them back...if they dont fit proper then they werent made proper....welding them in will work but ........they should fit right....Just sayin...........

Thanks for the input guys, going to call a welder to tack them in.

If you weld these, I would use more than a simple tack weld.

You are dealing with a possible failure here that could kill you, my mom, the neighbor kid down the street, the 4 year old girl walking her new puppy...........

You don't want to be known as "the dude that killed the 4 year old with a puppy", for the rest of your life, do you?

those crappy super thin threads in the UCA go away pretty fast...

If the ball joint popped out, I would suggest tack welding it all the way around the lip @ the seat. Or replace the arm.......

All right guys all we need is some duct tape, a paper clip and some scrap wood. We will McGyver that bad boy in place. LOL

The factory fix is to weld them in (about three welds around will do fine) if the threads are bad. I would remove the arms and take them to a welder if you don't have one. You could also replace the arms......

Especially when the manufacturer pressed in the cheapo ball joints it shipped with.

These went in easier than expected but still torqued snug to about 90 lbs. in hindsight I wish I would have gotten the PST tubulars but they required new spindles and $375. plus the $275 I already payed for the front end kit would have put it up into the project into >$800 bracket.

I'll remove the arms and have the BJ's welded in tomorrow.

ball bearings -- it's all ball bearing now guys!!

seriously-- get some good upper arms -- plenty on this site-- swap the ball joints in & go -- or tack yours in---
safety first!!

Don't forget about the weight savings ! "New variable geometry A-arms automatically adjust to changes in terrain".
