    Runs a bit lean...

After the head rebuild, I the slant in for a bit of professional maintenance. Timing was dialed in, compression (although I don't have the numbers from the test) came back in good health, and a tune-up was made. Something the matter, though, is that the carb (an early Holley 1920) is acting up...

    Troubleshooting Head Components

Hey gang, Long story short, I took the head off to change the gasket in order to fix a problematic oil leak. Based on the stamped steel gasket, I don’t think this engine has ever been serviced since its birth in ‘74. As you can see, it’s been running hot for years. I finally got that problem...

    Valve Springs

Hey gang, I'm to a point where there isn't much more to do on the ride. It sounds healthy, drives healthy. My interest now is merely splitting hairs. I'm a bit bored and I also don't want to spend a kidney's worth of money. I've stumbled upon a few mentions of using different valve springs...

    9" Rear Drums

Curious to know who your "guy" is. I'm not looking to spend an arm or a leg. I just want them operational. Looks like what I have on there now is pretty generic (I've never replaced them during my ownership.. But I've replaced the front). Went through Classic Industries last time, but their 9"...

Rubber Sleeves for Valve Cover Hose Arms

Has anyone ever purchased rubber sleeves to go around these bad boys? Do they even exist?

    Temporary Removal of A/C Compressor

Good afternoon, gang. I am unable to post pictures now, but I certainly can tomorrow if not this evening. In the mean time, I'll present the question(s) just to introduce the thread. First, the car in question is a 1974 Plymouth Duster with the 3.7L 225, automatic. I am doing some deep...

Unique Noise. Potential Torque Converter Gone Bad?

Upon starting the vehicle, the noise began with the initial crank. It isn't quite a grinding noise like you would hear fumbling a gear in the transmission. Its lighter, almost like a bearing rattling in a tin can. When I press the pedal in Park or Neutral, the noise increases with the RPM's. It...

    Positive Battery Cable

Prices are sky high and I'm interested in making my own. Only problem, though, I'm not an electrician and I am unfamiliar with load sizes and required gauges. Is there any room for improvement on gauge size versus the stock cable? Stock cable number is 2983649 according to the part manual. I...

    Power Steering Belt

On a ‘74 Duster 225. What size are you guys running? I’ve tried 5 different sizes and nothing seems proper. I’ve got the federal pump and the adjustment screw is not featured on mine. Its as if its a fixed bracket. Am I missing something? Probably so! How do I get this thing on there? Any help...

White Smoke from the Exhaust Pipe Near Engine Block

Just finished installing a recently rodded-out radiator, a new water pump, new transmission fluid filter and fluid, and added two gallons of coolant. Given, the car has sat for nearly 2 months, what could be the issue here? Temp gauge reading below average and I double checked my belts to make...

    CCEGR Valve

Howdy gang. I posted this in the A/C-Cooling category and I've had little to no hits. The /6 portion of the site has always been incredibly helpful so here I am. The car is a '74 Duster, 3.7L 225. My stock radiator has the CCEGR control valve, but is in rough shape. I'm looking for a new one...

    New CCEGR Valve?

I’m at a loss, gang. I’m having trouble finding this control valve for my radiator. The old valve is all gunked up. Any ideas on where to find another? Vehicle is a ‘74 Duster with the 3.7L 225. Stock radiator, hence the old stock CCEGR. Thanks!

    Fuel Line Mod Concerns

I got around to doing it and I'm happy with the results. However, I am concerned with the risk of heat from the valve cover getting to the line and potentially melting the hose. Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep it from resting atop the cover? Or is there nothing to worry about?

    Deleting Vacuum Amplifier

Strictly a hypothetical. After installing the Holley 1920, I have a connection unaccounted for. It runs to the vacuum amplifier. I plan on deleting the EGR especially since I am going to run an older 1bbl intake and a "bare-bones" radiator. Since its running fine with that connection loose...

    Holley 1920 R-4003B, 4162

I've got this old thing and I'm brushing off the dust to see if I can get it going. However, I've been searching around for a rebuild kit and I'm coming out without any luck. Does anyone know where I can find a build kit similar to this model? I'm having a tough time locating one. I'm pretty...

    CCEGR Valve and EGR Valve

Recently, I bought a cheap single barrel intake to go on the 225. The other is in rough shape. However, I have concerns about the two valves featured in the title. The intake I bought does not feature a EGR hook-up which will obviously disrupt the connection to the CCEGR. What exactly will...

    "Bare-Bones" Slant

Hello, all. Just a bit of curiosity here... I dug around the search bar on the forum and didn't see much pertaining, directly, to emissions operations or the necessity of the add-on's the government required for motor vehicles in the 70's forward. Most of what I see under the hood is a load of...

What in the world is going on with my coolant?

Alright everybody. I’ve tried everything that doesn’t involve spending big money. I crank the car (‘74 Duster 225), idle it to nearly operating temps before driving, and coolant boils past the seal of the cap. When cruising at 55 for extended periods of time, the temp exceeds its normal rate...

Interesting means of cleaning a carb

Howdy, everybody. I posted this in another thread and the reception was ‘Just buy a Chinese Carburetor.’ I think they misunderstood the intent, which was to rebuild the one I have on a dime without compromising the originality of the build. The fellas over on the other thread helped me...

    Trying to ID this Carter

Howdy and happy holidays! I’ve got a 2bbl Carter off an old 318. I remember seeing an identification chart online, but I can’t seem to find the OG. I’m pretty green to this stuff and the search bar on the forum is flooded with FOR SALE ads which is nearly no good for this instance. Would you...

Hard Shift from 1st to 2nd

Howdy, gang. I took the Holley 1945 off for some much needed maintenance, and the thing is running like a champ. Only problem is, my slightly higher idle setting is causing it to shift hard from 1st to 2nd. Its gentle in relation to other "hard shifts," but it is certainly not normal for this...

    Seat Identification: '73 or '74?

Hello, all. I am in a bit of a pickle. The ride is a '74 Duster base model with the /6. Nothing crazy about the body package; very generic. However, I was gearing up to replace the upholstery and bumped into an issue. Is this a '73 seat or a '74? Also, what would you call this type of bench...

    Piston Flip

*Correction Howdy, gang. Has anyone attempted the "Piston Flip" featured in *some YouTube videos*? If so, what are the benefits you've noticed from your personal project? Pros and cons? My Slant has 62k original miles and I would hate to blow the thing up. I'm simply looking for a little pep...

2bbl Intake... To Make or To Find?

Howdy, gang. I've bumped into some trouble finding an affordable 2bbl intake for the old /6. Currently running the stock Holley and I'd like to upgrade. I've found some good prospects to purchase, but I'm more interested in buying a house than spending $300 plus for a clean manifold. However, I...
