    Throwout bearing

It feels like a good part but in the end it's all about the quality of materials used in it's construction. Horse power, etc,, can spin it much better than the human bean can in hand. How long it will last... That is directly related to what you payed for it. Quality metals are far from cheap...

    Throwout bearing

Throw up bearing LOL. New are prepacked with grease ( not easy to grease ) so they will be tight. Used goes away and gets noisy after the grease is gone. Old school diagnosis... If you hear a noise with clutch pedal depressed, thats the throw up bearing. If the noise reduces with clutch pedal...

    automatic with a clutch

Have to apologize for such a long post. Dels post above reminded me of one... I had this friend named Johnny and from 14 to 16 we could get into all kinds of trouble. We were bad influence on each other I guess. So the old man (Harold) next door to Johnny didn't like us at all. Since the metal...

'67 Barracuda Fastback S 383 4 speed rear end issue?

drawing shows there are renewable bushings. Finding new could be a challenge. No guessing if they are all the same size. The bushings at brake pedal weren't. Good luck

    Ball bearings falling out

Do you have all 13 balls for the release bearing? Balls worn down in size? Your pic shows 1 ball in the release bearing that looks smaller than the others. Got a micrometer?

'67 Barracuda Fastback S 383 4 speed rear end issue?

Something very simple to try... get a bottle of Fords friction modifier and pour it in the differential. If they've never changed the formula of this stuff, don't spill a drop! Its smell registers right there with a dead skunk. Vapors from the empty bottle would clear the break room.

Factory must have ran out of auto consoles?

That small cut out in all automatic consoles is so you can get hand in under there and replace the light bulb of shift indicator. Console for manual shifter has larger cut out.

4 Speed Reverse Light Switch Resistance

Zero resistance equals closed switch. Open switch is infinite resistance. Typical are normally open switches and normally closed switches, with or without a spring that holds them in at their normal end of movement. The movement changes there condition. There are odd examples too. Consider the...

4 Speed Reverse Light Switch Resistance

Its just a open or closed switch. Some resistance in its contacts could cause not a bright reverse lamps.

    Speedometer cable

I wish I still had pictures of worn out speedometer parts to share. There is a magnetic propeller turning inside a drum or bell. When the tiny bronze bushing wear enough the magnet part starts touching/kissing the edge of the bell. That scaring and the egg shaped bushings is what I had pics of...

    Speedometer cable

All I can suggest is to clean the square drive port at the back of the instrument. That square port would get packed full of crud ( contaminated grease ). I suppose that's why someone would suggest trimming the cable length there. The cable has a stop collar that sets its depth in the port so if...

Tiny hand needed to connect speedometer cable in 71 Duster

I remove 1 screw that holds the fuse box to its bracket, move the box slightly, up, forward, then down, to set it out of the bracket. This makes a lot more arm/hand space to access headlight switch and speedo cable. Moving the headlight switch along with its wiring makes even more space toward...

Back up lights on when trans is in neutral

Well of course reverse position closes the switch but... Is the button pushed or released when in reverse? That's what I don't know. I doubt the moving part inside the trans is worn. The button on the switch might be worn.

Back up lights on when trans is in neutral

I don't know if this switch is normally open or normally closed. A brake lamp switch is normally closed. The pedal pushes the button and opens the switch, pedal moved away release the button so switch returns to it normally closed position. Simple enough? This reverse lamp switch should be easy...

    Tailshaft bushing

Once the bushing is worn enough the seal will fail. Park it facing uphill and come back to find a bunch of trans fluid. I exited out to where my car had sat in front of a hospital for two days. Found a lot of speedy dry had been spread behind my old Plymouth. Quite embarrassing.

    neutral safety switch

Depending on year model, a manual trans build may not have a neutral safety switch at all.

Can this be straightened and used???....

Grass, weed, reefer ? was many years ago. Bro-in-law drove that lil car to work and back, fishing, etc.., nearly 2 years so it was a pretty good deal.

Can this be straightened and used???....

Closest mess to this I can recall seeing was a Datsun F10 hatchback. Weird U turn of a drive line in that thing. Anyway the flywheel to crank nor the pressure plate to flywheel bolts were torqued properly. Stuff flung all about in there. Owner though the noise was engine failing so decided to...

    gearbox install advice

I would be worried that the pilot shaft bushing in the crank was too small/tight fit. That's just about the 3/4 inch you struggled with. At least you didn't break a bolt ear off the trans case. That's more common with aluminum cases.

Where was all this black oil coming from?

Any fluid there will appear black because its filled with clutch disc material. Same as brake lining dust on wheels. Looks like its oil leaking from the trans to me.

    gear lube vs. tranny fluid

Years ago I had a automatic trans that shuttered in certain overdrive speed/load conditions. After finding it had the wrong fluid in it, I had to ask how the fluid could make a difference. I learned that the shutter was still there but I wouldn't feel it. The molecules of modern fluids do...

    back up light question

A couple of years back, another member had similar problems. If my memory serves, he figured out his was a early model trans which required a certain / hard to find switch. Same applies to neutral safety switches in automatics. There are different lengths, metal plungers, nylon plungers, 2 wire...

Looking for someone to Fab me up a B/E to Abody TRANSMISSION adapter plate.

The spacer tubing could be black pipe but it should be welded and provide a flat plane. Otherwise it might shake loose or crack the adjacent aluminum.

    2-3 jamming up

All I have is advise or more like warning.. Get it fixed before you waste a gear. I've seen too many cases where worn out shift mechanism ruined a good trans.

    67-69 barracuda 4 speed parts fit 70-72 dart/valiant?

I can only suggest you find out exactly what the origin was. I talked with a guy who bought a 71 Duster and found the 4 speed trans installed by previous owner came from a 1st gen' / pre 67 A-body. Small differences at pilot shaft and bushing, speedometer cable, etc.., made for a few small...

    65 4 speed in 71 Duster?

Its been done before. One of my instrument panel customers bought a Demon and discovered it had a early 4 speed trans. Custom made mount, drive shaft, shifter linkage, were required. Probably clutch linkage too. Only thing that hadn't been conquered by the previous owner was the speedometer...

NON MOPAR: clutch is not disengaging

I also take the bolts out of the brake caliper and hook the caliper in the spring coils, secure with zip tie. This allows a lot more movement in the spindle/strut tower without damaging the fluid hose.
