    GV Under/Overdrive Units

I ended up lowering my trans mount 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch to get mine to fit without tunnel modification. 68 Dart 360/904. It was that or heavy hammering on the tunnel. Didn't like either option. The gear vendor is great other than that.

    Flywheel question with pics

That flywheel has a lot of holes drilled in it to be a neutral balance flywheel. I'm no expert but I would guess that is for a later externally balance engine.

    Donor drivetrain question

I found a donor car listed for about the same price as the one your looking at. I sent them a message saying I wasn't a dealer just someone that like these old cars. If they didn't get any better offers to contact me. I would be willing to buy it for $600 cash, more than a wrecking yard would...

    Engine/Trans Seriously Bad Noise

My first thought was also the torque converter bolts. Even if they are tight might want to check that they are not bottoming out on the converter before torquing down on the flex plate. That happen to me once on a new build.

Question on Gearvendors overdrive . Is it a basic bolt in operation for a

I have no idea what the HP rating or warranty is on a A833 OD but a new gear vendor does have a warranty and I'm thinking they are rated at about 750HP maybe more. I rolled the dice with used and ended up with a good unit for close to half of new price. Bottom line is overdrive in these old...

Question on Gearvendors overdrive . Is it a basic bolt in operation for a

I bought a used one for a ford transmission. traded in the ford adapter + $750 if I remember right for a 904 adapter at gear vendor. My thoughts on used if you can pick them up for under a thousand dollars you are probably fine. Gear Vendor will rebuild them or exchange the unit if it doesn't...

Should I gasket seal on transmission pan?

Just need to make sure the flange on the trans pan is not bent up or distorted from being over tightened in the past. Should be nice and flat even at the bolt holes. "I would say no sealant" Oh and you should never question your husband, He will always be right till he's wrong.

    4.30 W/28" Rubber or 3.90 on 26" Shoes?

I think 26" tires look a little small on the rear of A bodies. I prefer the look of a 27" like a 255/60/15 type tire. 28" would be my choice of the two in the poll.

Wheel stud replacement with axle shaft still in place, possible?

This may only apply to the smaller differentials and not the 8-3/4. But it has been my experience To replace 7/16" studs without pulling an axle. Using the studs I've bought at Autozone they had a bigger shoulder on the backside than factory and may of been a 1/8" longer. To get them in I had to...

    Gear Vendors overdrive

I have one that I bought used. I'm running a 4:10 gear and 28" tires. I can run the freeway passing cars at about 80 mph just under 3000 RPM, or I can run in the low 70's mph at about 2200-2300 RPM. Being a street strip car I like the 4:10 gear and the ability to lower the RPM on the...

    67 383 4spd originality

I'm no help with the numbers. I know the Factory 68 383S car I did, the driver side motor mount bolted to a boss on the front of the block. It's my understanding that all 383 have this boss but I think just the A body blocks were drilled and tapped. Here is a picture borrowed from member...

    Sbp vs lbp

Yes you can buy factory kelsey hayes disc brakes with small bolt pattern. It should be noted that most all of them require rebuild and the calipers parts along with typical front end rebuild parts like upper and lower ball joints get pretty expensive for the 72 and earlier small bolt pattern...

sold a transmission now having buyer problems

Not sure there is right thing to do. It's a big loss for the buyer and he paid for the trans and installation. So he is really screwed! I think I would see if it blows over, maybe just a lesson learned for the buyer in this case. If not tell him you'll refund the money for the trans. Thats about...

    How much is to much?

Not sure what the question is? I would look for an 8.25 out of an A body complete with brakes. Should swap right in if you get the spring/shock pads and u bolts with it. I would think you would be looking at $200 or $300 dollars for the complete rear end with brakes. Hopefully u bolts and...

That's high even for California. Better shop the work around to a couple smaller transmission style shops. That sounds like a Amco quote .

not your typical pinion angle post

I believe the goal is your trying to get the harmonic vibrations out of the drive line more than trying to set a perfect strait line between the drive shaft and pinion under hard acceleration. Of course I'm no expert I could be wrong.

not your typical pinion angle post

Got to love two very different responses right off the bat. That is not uncommon when talking pinion angle. The Rossler Trans way has nothing to do with drive shaft angle. LOL... But it's my understanging that is the correct way to set it.

    Dana 60 pinion snubber

I have the same set up. No snubber or place to install one. I'm just running super stock leaf springs. Some day I'm going to get the Caltrac system. I don't seem to have any major problems with the springs rapping up on launch.

Anyone using a Gear Venders O/D unit?

I'm running one in a 68 Dart with 4:10 gear 904 trans and a 28" tall tire. I bought mine used and installed it myself. The unit is suppose to fit the tunnel without modification I found that I had to drop the trans mount down 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to make it fit without tunnel mods. The GV...

what rear gear to choose for road racing

We run a 3.73 in a road racing mustang but it does have a 5 speed. I would say depending on tire size and trans you would probably want a gear in the 3.55 to 3.73 range

    GV overdrive for a BB??

I put a gear vendor in my 68 Dart very happy with the unit. However the unit didn't fit in the tunnel as they said. I had to modify my trans mount to lower the trans down about 3/4". When I called gear vendor they said I might have to enlongate the crossmember holes about .100 but that was not...

    68 dart 360/904 vibration

Did you internally balance the rotating assembly. I would think that would be required with the new rotating assembly. If it is internally balanced you may be mixing standard 360 externally balanced parts with your new internally balanced engine. Balancer, flex plate, convertor should all be...

Keisler Tremec TKO 600 5 speed

Thats some nice hardware, think your going to be very happy when its all together and running. I have a 2 year old TKO600 in a road race mustang and no problems. Although we don't really shift the car above 6K rpm. I think most of those problems shifting was the older TKO600 from 6+ years ago.
