Can I remove the ammeter and replace it with a voltmeter and use the ammeter wires? (in a 74 duster)

These two wires were connected to the negative side of the amp meter. In a 74 duster. Are they supposed to be there? No idea what they go to.

74 duster my temp and fuel gauge were going to full so I purchased a new ivr, now the gauges don't move at all, so I put the old ivr in and the gauges go to full, so is the new ivr no good? Thanks

I just got the mallory unilight and it has 3 wire hook up 1 to + coil 1 to - coil and 1 to ground,with the electronic igintion i all ready have a + from the ballast resistor to the coil and a - to coil. Do i hook it up to the coil or into the ballest resistor. Thanks Mike
